I am so close to bokoing my trip to africa and the middle east just waiting for time off work! here is my trip-
Perth - Amman
overland for 15 days from Amman to Cairo
fly Cairo - Dubai
spend a week in Dubai
fly Cairo - Nairobi
overland for 44 days from Nairobi - Cape Town
then a couple of days in Cape Town
fly home to Perth.
Flights cost $2800 ozzie dollar and the tours costs about 3000-3500
can't wait. just looking into dubai accommodation and stuff to do there. all up i think 2 and a half months come to about $6000AUD.
if anyone has done somethin similar drop us a line.
Looks great. But aren't you going to spent any time in Egypt at all? No going down the nile to Aswan or at least Luxor? No day trip to Alexandria?
And why did it have to be Amman, the ugliest city in the arab world, when you could have picked Damascus, Cairo or Tel Aviv instead? (I really hope it had something to do with costs.)
BTW, a week is enough for Jordan - one day for making your way to Wadi Musa (Petra), 1-2 days for Petra, another 1-2 days for Wadi Rum, Aqaba. A day and a night in Aqaba for the beach, and you are ready to cross into either Israel or Egypt.
Consider to squeeze in Jerusalem (to compensate for that architectural horror that is Amman) or another sight in Israel like the Dead Sea. OF course IMO, there is no place like Jerusalem. If you don't go there, yo haven't really been to the middle-east. (Take that from somebody who has done middle-eastern studies for three years.)
Oh i think i forgot to mention that i have a 2 week trip starting in Amman and ending in Cairo. that 2 week trip includes aswan, mt.sinai cairo abu simbel, most of the places to go to as well as all those places you mentioned in Jordan. I am a little bit dissapointed i am not going to alexandria.
