My Irish boyfriend kept talking to me about his "wee sister and brother", and I figured they were little tykes and I'd bring them over some toys or something when I visited. Turns out they're 15 and 16...

My well-thought-out screen name is made from the "t" of my first name and the "way" of my last. It could also be a Zen philosophy whereby I adhere to the way of the t...

Ohhhmmm.

Hi all, only been a member for a couple of months now, so my turn to explain my name.

Back in school a mate of mine, used to be the nick name king. everyone would get a nickname that would come from a sequence of changes. For example a girl called niki became known as Index... why?? Well niki got pronounced as nikkei, then extended to nikkei index (from the share market), and then nikkei was dropped.

As for my name, it was this bloke who assigned it. There is a surfer by the name of Johnny-Boy Gomes. As my name is Daniel, i was referred to once as Danny-Boy. Then the connection was made and Danny Boy Gomes is my assigned nickname from school. Obviously it is a bit too long to put on most sites, so i dropped the first two words to initials. DBGomes!!!!

The name has stuck with me for school friends, however with my work mates my nickname here is Guido. That was given to me by another bloke who is a nickname king. However, i dont really know the story behind that name.

Cheers
Daniel

Mine is just a play on words:). My god given name is Marcus, but only my mother calls me that! Took the shorter version of my name and....volia! Stateside "MARK" with a K is pretty common. So, having it spelled with a C makes me even more remarkable! Err...I mean remarcable.;)

Explanation of my user name. Well my name is Donna Louise, all my family call me Louise or Lou (a strange family thing where no-on is called by their 'correct' name!), I did want the username DonnaLou, but someone had already taken that. Then I remembered my mum and nan used to call me LoubyLou, after the Andy Pandy character, hence Loubylou!

Ok, when written down it doesn't seem as exciting or interesting!

Donna

I recently searched my user name, and found references to the sound of helicopter blades. Otherwise it's just a variation of, and nickname derived from my first name.

So everybody has a great explanation to their names but me..

Well.. the short story to my handle is that my full name is Edvard and I really like Japan.. so I went t oa site and wrote down my name in a little window and WHAAM! I got my "japaneese" name... kinda dull I guess but thats what happened..

Cheers,

Ebbe (That's my nickname if anyone wonders.. )

This is brilliant thread - the best way of explaining mine is:

"During the period in which the Upanishads were written, Hindu philosophers began to develop the concept of samsara in line with other aspects of Upanishadic thought. The Hinduism of the the Samhitas looked on the material world as understandable and controllable; it was in the material world that the gods (devas ) gave to humans and the gods could be controlled through hymns, prayers, rituals, and sacrifices. But the Upanishadic Hindus began to think of the world as illusion (maya ); reality (Sat ) was rather to be sought in the unchanging and unitary principle of the universe, whether that be Rita, Brahman, or Atman. The material world, on the other hand, was a place fragmented and constantly changing; this changing aspect of the universe came to be called samsara"

the reason behind my name is quite boring, i love old Irish stories which can be quite descriptive, any one with black hair ( like me ) is said to have hair as dark as a Raven, and as my friends know this and my slightly strange obsession with wierd horror i was nicknamed Raven by a few when i was very young, if you ask my brother though he will tell you that i;m a ''bird'' with black hair and blackbird doesn't sound very original..

Great, it’s my turn!!!
My name is Patricia, and my nickname is Pati, but here is pretty common to spell it as Patty (short way), well I decided to be original and write it in a simple way: Pati...I wanted to use pati as username but someone had taken that, well I decided to add double p and t, hence ppatti - really original, isn’t it?
