Haven`t been to Vietnam-decided to give it a miss as I was tired of getting hassled by people at the time. Cambodia ,as previously mentioned, doesn`t require a month. But is well worth a visit for Angkor and Sinaoukville.PP is you like to party and shoot guns.

Take a month in Laos. Travel north to south. Beautiful mountains and rural life in the north. Si Phan Don in the far south is a great place to spend some beach chillin time. Vang Vieng is nice for a return to civilization-backpacker hangout, ridin tubes on the river, watching movies and having special milkshakes. LPrabaung and Vientianne have nice French inspired architecture and some good places to eat but don`t warrant a long stay. Travel time is very slow and when I was there a few years back there were no ATM`S so bring American$$.

Thanks for more info!

Sounds like I should only spend a 7-10 days in Cambodia then.
That's cool, more days to spare for somewhere else...

Thank you!

I'd be tempted to go to Vietnam just so you can tell stories starting "When I was in Nam..."

I love it that everyone has own favourites that is so what traveling is about! Personaly out of the 3 Cambodia was my fav followed closley by Laos. Vietnam I did like but found it alot more 'touristy' more like Thailand where laos and Cambodia were less developed and really enjoyed being there before the tourist boom hits. They were all htough great and am sure that where ever you choose to go you will love it!

They are all nice places, you will never be able to decide which one not to visit (i know i wouldnt)If i were you, travel to laos for the least amount of time, but still go to vietnam/cambodia for the longer stays. Reason i say this is because i read that the typical laos village consists of like 3 huts and a herd of cows. Now, im sure its very nice, i just think there may be more to see in the other 2 places. whatever you deicide mate, you'll have a wiked time! happy travels!

I think I'm going to have to go to them all really!
I'm now thinking of cutting out Myanmar instead.

My mind is made up: all three!

I've just had a really cool PM from a traveller who has recently done the trip and he made a very good point; if I start in Vietnam, I'll be saving the best until last as Vietnam is quite touristy...

And do not forget to get to the Mekong islands in Cambodia...take a ferry across the Mekong River and you'll see more rug places and wonders how those poor could survive in such a harsh environment?
For me, it's more than millions to experience and totally unforgettable!

If you've got a whole year to globetrot, sacrifice something else and do all three! I think Vietnam would take up the most number of days because there is so much to see, but Cambodia is also packed with great places to discover (not only Angkor). That said, I give the nod to Cambodia over Vietnam, but that's only my opinion. I also think Laos is very worthwhile, but could cull the highlights in less than a week. And if you haven't thought about going to Myanmar, tack that one on also. An incredible country, very different than its neighbors.
