I'm currently in Laos, a week ago I was in Vietnam and a month before that I was in Cambodia

I think 60 days would be enough to see the best of each country but if you do choose to eliminate one then the one depends on what you most like to do...

Cambodia is amazing, only 4 days needed to Siam Reap to see Angkor and I think two days is plenty in Phomn Pehn, gives you enough time to see the killing fields and s-21... the beach in Cambodia is nicer than at Nha Trang in Vietnam but you can go scuba diving very cheaply in Nha Trang however expect visibily to only be about 6-7metres!

Vietnam i truely loved and would go back tomorrow... HCMC is fun for a few days, nha trang is just one part of the beautiful coast line, hoi an is a nice little town to chill out if you want to get some clothes made up (i didnt but most people do) Hanoi is a great capital with lots to do, the water puppet show is not to be missed!
Sapa yeah has nice scenery with fake hill tribe people... its all put on for the tourist but has good treks... missed out on Halong Bay sadly as I ran out of time but it looks amazing... the caves at Tam coc are a great day out too...
Entered Laos from Lao Bao and went to Savankhet, then Pakse and then Tat Lo, got to ride an elephant which has been the highlight of Laos so far, other than that I have been bored stiff and have also constantly felt as though people have been trying to have me over which a lot of people say is the feeling they get in Vietnam and basically the rest of SEA... I guess the more you look for it the more you notice it...

Laos is great for those who want to do nothing but sit on their arse all day and read a book... I personally prefer a lot more going on but its each to their own...

I'd go back to Vietnam & Cambodia tomorrow, more so Vietnam...
But the choice is yours...

if you do all three id suggest starting Laos at the north, heading southwards into Cambodia to Siam Reap and then Phomn penh, if you have time squeeze in the beach at Sihanoukville and then enter into Vietnam from phomn penh and work your way up the coast... Air Asia has a flight from Hanoi to Bangkok for $55 so to end Vietnam in Hanoi makes sense depending on where you are flying to/from next!

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info! I'm definately going to all three now, but I'm probably going to sacrifice Myanmar. I'll have to see how it all goes, just play it by ear really

Hope you're having a great time!

Neil,

I just left Hanoi yesterday after 10 days in only the north of Vietnam and I can 100% say that it is so far my favourite country. I have travelled a little through Asia (Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia), East , Canada, Africa, Europe, US so have seen only a little of the world.
I just didn't have enough time for Cambodia or Laos but met heaps of people that had a great time in both (more so in Laos). Alot of people got a bit tired from the constant haggling in Cambodia. Apparently they are pretty persistent. No doubt as we would all be if we were that poor too.
I am sure where ever you spread your time in Asia out you will enjoy it, but I wouldn't skip Vietnam. A
I loved it so much I am going back next year for maybe 2 months, then maybe to China for 3 months.

Viva Vietnam

Hi, My 5 cents contribute.
I have never been to Laos but I heard great things. The reason why I haven't been there is because there are no beaches and I dpn't go nowhere without sea and sand. Anyway I have been two weeks in Vietnam and liked it and slightly more than a month in Cambodia, Just fallen in love with it to the point I wanted to move there for good (I live in Australia!). The people is just beautiful and friendly. I would go back anytime really it is so cheap and easy to travel. I felt safe 24/7 regardless the location. At this stage I vote for Cambodia.
Good luck mate!
Andrea
