Pick up a Lonely Planet TG, they will have some hotel recommendations for you. (I don't stay in that area, it's usually the younger travellers head to that part of town.) There is an AIRPORT BUS that goes directly to KSR for 100 baht, just outside the airport arrivals hall. That bus kiosk is on the same level as the taxi kiosk. You will be on that bus with many other travellers heading for KSR, perhaps you can get some recommendations from one of them too.

Another choice, in the Sukhumvit area, is the SUK 11 Hostel. Many "younger" travellers go there too. One advantage of the Sukhumvit area over KSR is the availability of the Skytrain. The webpage for the SUK 11 Hostel is www.suk11.com and they have an e-mail address: -snip- for correspondence.

Don't leave home without a Lonely Planet TG or equivalent backpacker travel guide.

[ Edit: sorry, no emails in the forum please. ]

Thanks for the advice Karazyal( sorry if i have not spelt this right!).
I have already purchased a LP guide!! (which I haven't been able to put down for the last week!!). I have already stayed in ther Khao San road, which while I agree, it is definitely for the younger traveller ( I am 24- is that young??? - it depends who you are comparing yourself to , surelly!??), I will feel more comfortable there, as I have dealed with Travel Agents there before, and know my way around.
The LP does have descriptions of several hotels/guesthouses in the Khao San, but am just wondering if anyone can suggest one that is particularly good for meeting other backpackers.
Maybe I will meet people on my flight to Bangkok, or on the bus to Khao San. Fingers Crossed!!!
