sprague has indicated that this thread is about Indonesia

Hi there,

I am heading to SE Asia in a couple of weeks and am trying to decide on which route to take. I fancy heading through Indonesia but am a touch concerned that the UK Foreign Office seems to consider Indonesia a no-go area except on essential business. I would like to hear from anyone who is in Indonesia at the moment or has been recently, just to get an idea of how safe it really is....or isnt.

Thanks
Vicki

p.s. I will be travelling alone.

Hi Vicki.

I just got back from Central Jawa (8 April 2004 to 11 April 2004). This is with reference to Central Jawa. Everything looked ordinary. If you travel the tourist areas, I don't think there would be much problems. I have photos to illustrate. Go to http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4287235677

You will have to sign in as a member first. The password to this album (Central Jawa, Indonesia) is 123.

Hi, I will be travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Manado and then to Sorong, Irian Jaya this coming end of April (ETD27th April to the 6th of May) for diving and stuffs. Dont really know how's the situation at presence, especially after the general election. Hopefully things aren't as bad as we thot it could be. Buzz me, if we happen or would tend to bump at the crossroad or something. I will be with a couple more friends.

Cheers,
Jay

maybe you could go to some off beaten place like the small island of Biak, just above the main island of Papua (Irian Jaya). Very safe and nice place to relax, diving, fishing, birdwatching (Biak Paradise-Kingfisher, Biak Red Lory, Biak Monarch and Biak Black Flycatcher), the beaches are marvelous with white sandy beach.

Perfect for a laid back weekend before continuing your adventure to Papua main island! place to spend the night? check out Arumbai Hotel right in the central city near internet cafe, bank and market, reasonable price with air con, shower, cumfy bed in all standart rooms. have great trip!
