Im not planing in travelling until mid next year.
First of all its good that you've started thinking about planning so far ahead. When I first came up with the idea of my trip everything seemed scary and i didnt have a clue where to start, but Ive been planning for about 2 months now and I'm much more confident and cant wait to get away!
On the net, look at VirtualTourist and Lonely Planet websites - they have forums like this and also destination specific advice. I looked at a Rough Guide book called, 'First-Time around the world', and it was really inspiring, gives advice on how to plan your trip such as visas/health/transport ideas etc.. its a good place to start. Then maybe start researching specific places, look at Lonely Planet New Zealand etc.
If you're coming in the summer time i know that the orchards are always looking for fruit pickers so you could maybe do some work there... dont know if thats what you're interested in but i thought it might be helpful
Thanks IngridJone - it's helped me as was wondering what time to start looking for fruitpicking in NZ, I am heading there now early December
Daniel the minimum amount to go into NZ to work is NZ$4,200. I think the WHV costs $NZ65 but can't remember - it won't be far off. Also I know that you can work upto a year in the same job if you are british - but I'm not sure what the rules are for Australians I think the passport has to be valid for six months after you plan on leaving also but am unsure.
As for airfares - maybe try the following sites which some have an interactive map where you can plan a route and get an on-line quote, also discounts for students or adults under 26: -
This site may have details also, I'm not sure.
Best of luck
I thought if you have got an Australian passport you can have permanent residency in NZ no worries. Which includes working and all that.
Dont quote me, but I thought we are major pals with NZ
I'm sure you can look it up on the right website.
kai Ora (Hi) Daniel. Yes us New Zealanders don't make it to difficult for our Aussie mates to visit or work here (do you play rugby? that helps) ...joke... If you visit my web site you will find information about accomodation, work and travel. If you get stuck with anything you can email me with specific questions and I will do my best to help.
