This has probably shown up in the threads before but can anyone give me advice on how to minimise my packing! I know lm awful and take way too much but we are going away for 4 weeks at Christmas (which is the longest l have been away for) and l over pack when off on a 2 week trip!

We will be in Australia for 10 nights and then to NZ for 20 nights! I know it will be summer and l really only need to pack summer clothes with a sweater for night etc, but what about tolitries, sun cream etc are they cheaper in the UK or should l just leave them until we get over there!

How do l minimise my packing and save myself from the wrath of my other half complaining about my case!!

hey

I usually roll up my stuff instead of folding it saves me tons of room.

IMO, when in doubt, jsut take two of everything.
(of course, some things, you'd rather have to take tow SETS... i.e. underear...)

I have tried to follow this lin but once there, how do you actually get into the topic you're interested in? I click on the heading and nothing happens?

How can you go to Australia without sunscreen. Especially with an Irish complexion.

Hi If you read this section of my quote its not about NOT buying sun screen but rather to l purchase it in the UK or simply wait till we get to the other side - is the price of sunscreen along with other tolitries cheaper in the UK or OZ! Not simply sunscreen too but rather shampoo, shower gel etc etc - if they were cheaper down under it would make more sense to leave this out and pick them up when we start our trip and then save on space when l pack!

Does this make sense?! Im not that daft to leave my skin nake in the sun - whether my complexion is Irish or not (even though l do tan l may add!!!)

if your planning on backpacking, i'd say go overwhat you packed several times. ask yourself whether or not you really need it. i backpacked with a shitty blue jansport bag from 1998, and all i had was a chage of undies, shirt, socks, maps, list of hostels, pocketknife, matches, my flutes, foodstuffs, digital camera, a jacket (it was fall) a book to write in, a compass, toothbrush, toothpaste, deoderantand an travellers checks. mebbe a coupleother odds an ends but not much.
but then again, im a minimalist to the extreme.

but regardless, its a relatively common thing to pack stuff you really dont need. ask yourself when youre gonna use the item, and how much you need it, compared to how hard its gonna be to lug around.
good luck

Dont you just love packing for a trip.
It was my first decent length trip last year of what 7 months and some of the things i packed were insane.
Luckily for that trip though i was travelling from one country to another and it was either summer or about to start summer so nice and warm so like you mentioned i only needed one fleece for night time.

However this time im going travelling in Wet Season in Costa Rica,Summer in Oz and also taking tent and hiking gear for Chile,Peru and Argentina.

Oh what fun.3 weeks to decide what to take

Except this time im not going to the US and Canada and going on crazy shopping sprees and then have another 4 months to haul extra things around with me.

Good luck packing
