I've stayed in two hostels in Krakow and they were both very nice, clean and reasonably priced. I got a single room in Sky Hostel which was really the standard of a hotel but only cost about 15 euros a night, the other one was Kadetus hostel, which was fairly near the castle and was also very cheap for a 6 bed room but I can't remember how much exactly. Either of those hostels are very nice and close to the city centre - the old town of Krakow isn't that big so most of the hostels are near to the centre. I wouldn't stay in one in Kazmierz the Jewish district though to be honest, just because that's a little out of the way though still within (long) walking distance of the station.

I stayed at the Greg-Tom hostel last March. The location was good - opposite the train and bus station, and close to the centre. However, my friend and I encountered an aggressive beggar who then tried to mug us on our way back to the pub late one night. We had to physically push him out the door after he tried to follow us in. He was waiting with his family at the bus stop.

It was also quite a small hostel, with thin walls and a few queues for the bathroom! If you are up for meeting people and a friendly atmosphere, this is a good one. If you want privacy, security, and facilties, look elsewhere.

I stayed in this one BURSA (, which only runs during student holidays. It is not in the city center, it's just on the other side of the river, but it will cost you almost nothing to take a taxi if you are carrying heavy bags with you. Otherwise we used the tram all the time. The Neighbourhood was safe and very very calm, so no problem to come back late. They were very nice to us, and the place is clean.

Just got back and I must say Nathans Villa is fantastic ! Nice location, very clean en all cool people. Very nice is the bar in the basement of the hostel in Krakow. You can drink very cheap beer : half liter for 6 zloty = € 1.50 !!
