Hey man

I can just tell you about Chile skiing places, even though i´ve visit other places, so far i believe that in here we have better slopes and skiing facilities, but thats my opinion!

Anyway, there are 3 skiing resorts near Santiago, one 4 hours from Santiago, near the Argentinian border, and several south, but the most important in the South is called Chillan (

the ones that are near the Capital (45 minutes by car, 1.15 mintes by bus) are Colorado ( la parva ( and valle nevado ( For sure, the one that is most famous abroad is valle nevado, el colorado is also very good, slightly more popular, and la parva is more high class type, still very good for my opinion.

the 3 of them cost almost the same, last year it was aprox. 35 USD the ticket, but there are special promotions, specially if you are a student (bring a valid ID FROM your school, as i recall, ISIC doesnt work), and in that case it will cost around 20 USD. Somethime they dont accept students id from abroad, but there are also a lot of promotions as if you have a card, a visa, mastercard, etc (20 USD to 30 USD). Last but not least, if you buy weekend ticket or 1 week ticket, its also cheaper. you can ask with other chileans to buy the ticket for you when you are on the mountains with those cards, as almost everyone has them.

the other resort that is near the Argentinian border is called portillo (, which is very good indeed, its just a bit far away from the capital.

well, in those webpages you can find more information. if you need more, dont hesitate to mail (

Hi there,

In Argentina the most famous resorts are Las Leñas near Mendoza, Catedral near Bariloche (, Chapelco near San Martin de los Andes and Cerro Castor near Usuhuaia. Las Leñas has the best snow (the highest slopes) but there is nothing to do besides skiing. Bariloche is cheaper, busier and has a lively nightlife. Argentina tends to be cheaper, sunnier (which can of course be a disadvantage skiing) and with better food (sorry titov...). Chile might have more and better snow.

Hope this helps...

Sinfronter, Argentina has way way better food than us, im sure it has the best food (or at least the best beef) in the world.

Anyway, i just wanted to say that.

Hi Tyler

Bariloche has TONS of hostels, count on 30 pesos (10$US) per night. The big hostels charge more, but in the bus-terminal you will find info on "casas de familia" which are usually a lot cheaper. If you´re interested in Bariloche you could also pm me, I do have a lot more information if you need.

Have fun planning
