Hi everyone! After being held back for months for various reasons I am now finally able to go on my round the world trip but because of the time of year I am hitting the rainy season in every practically every destinations until Christmas in Oz!
My journey, starting in the middle of May, is India (May/June), China/ Japan (June/July), Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia then Oz (August/December). I am not really complaining I would much rather be in one of these countries in the rain than stuck in the UK but I am worried about the humidity and getting around and wonder if maybe there is a better way of doing the route?
Has anyone been to any of these areas during rainy season that can give me any advice or tips or maybe the best places to go/avoid at the best times. Are they really unbearable or manageable?
Thank you very much in advance for any help you can give.
India in May and June is unbearably hot. The rains haven't really started yet, so the heat is just building. If you plan to spend the whole two month in the mountains where it is cooler then you will be fine, but if you want to see a bit of Rajasthan or anywhere else, you will roast that time of year.
I've visited South East Asia twice during the monsoon and never did I find it a problem. It is quite possible that you'll get stuck somewhere due to bad roads, or you'll have a few days where it just won't be beach weather, but for the most part, it's not too bad. If you have time and are prepared for possible delays than there is nothing to worry about. It only rains for a bit of the day, and most of the time the weather is fine. As far as I know, by the end of your trip it will pretty much be out of the monsoon. Once you get to Oz in December it's perfect weather.
But if there is anyway to get to India at a better time, you might want to think about it.
Hi, thanks for your reply.
I seem to hear some quite conmflicting reports about the monsoon. Some books/people say it is horrible, hot and humid with cyclones etc lots of leeches and mosquitos then others say it isnt that bad. its quite confusing!
I thought about doing it the other way around but I wanted to leave USA til last because I would prefer to spend my money seeing the rest of the world first then if there was some left I would see some of America or just go Straight home.
Not sure what to do?!?
Japan is June is pretty much just rain. Dont think it really stops for the whole bloody month! Is also very humid as is the start of the hot season. So whilst it wont be pleasnt, as long as u dont mind a bit of rain ull be fine.....!
