I will be in Italy this summer and would like to take a short trip to Greece. I am considering catching the ferry from Venice to Partas, riding the train to Athens, and then flying back to Venice (or the reverse). Are the ferry rides enjoyable? Are the views worth the long ride? Do I need to consider that some iteneraries may pass beautiful scenery in the middle of the night?
Or, is it best to fly roundtrip?
I'd appreciate any advice.
If you want to take the ferry from Italy to Greece I think you should take Superfast Ferries. They go from Ancona, Bari or Brindise (all Italy) to Igoumentisa and Patras (Greece). Best thing you can do is go to Patras and there take the train to Athens.
I would suggest that you take a plan to and from Italy and Athens...but you should still experience the ferries....they are really nice. Then you could take the ferry over to one of the more famous islands like Ios, Santorini or Mykonos!
I took the Blue Star ferry from Patras to Bari last summer, which was very nice. It took about 17 hours though and I would recommend that you get a bed to sleep in...
