Hi everyone, I'm arriving at S.Francisco friday 21, going back to L.A., where my friend and I are living for a while, monday 24. We have a car and we'd like to go around the area but also to go out at least one night. We like informal places, maybe with good live music, nice people, not chic nor elegant,a place where you can dance, drink, chat or just look at people around. Not for teens!
It woulnd't be bad to also have tips about a nice area of the city with bars or clubs similar to the one described.
Also any info about those small and super tasty restaurants that only locals know...fish? and unmissable places to be seen are much than appreciated.

Many thanks,
claudia

Best places are Columbus Street, Union Avenue west of Van Ness, and the area just a block east of Van Ness or west of Van Ness near where it intersects with Broadway.

Oh, and there's all a great jazz place just west of Fisherman's Wharf. Other good bars are down by the Embarcadero and just west of Union Square in the hotels and restaurants (Hilton, Pan Pacific, Westin St. Francis). Lastly, there are lots of great Irish bars all over town.

Castro area has got some great bars. As long as you don't mind getting chatted up by same-sexed individuals its a really friendly quarter with a big choice of different bars.

I got chatted up by a middle-aged texan woman who was on a girls weekend away and had a husband and two children waiting at home for her!???? She was a very nice lady to chat to though!
My boyfriend and one other male friend of ours got chatted up by quite a few blokes and whilst we were all chatting to them we discovered that one of them went to the same school as my boyfriend and was in the same year as his brother! Its a small world!!!!!!
