I´m planing a trip in august to Mendoza, and I´m very excited at the displays of astonishing beauty of the Aconcagua. I wish to know how to get to a bus to Mendoza to the mountain, how to hike it to the peak, and how to leave the Aconcagua directly to Santiago-Chile by bus.

Any replys will help!

Thanks in advance.

For climbing info grab yourself a copy of "Aconagua" by RJ Secor - but in a nutshell there are two routes a technical (and often deadly one - see the climbers cemetary at the foot of the park) route, and a much easier but more crowded route.

Buses leave from the main bus terminal in Mendoza and you can take either the Express Upspallata bus, or grab one which is heading to Chile and stops at Punta del Inca (about 15 km away). That's the same bus you'd need to catch to get into Chile on the way back - but make a reservation! these buses fill up and if you get a reservation you'll get an assigned seat, if not you'll probably either stand or not be able to get on the bus.

Hope it helps.

Hi Roberto

You wont be able to reach the top of Aconcagua in August since it's in the middle of the winter. Technicaly is it an easy mountain to climb, but a very cold mountain aswell.
Plan wisely if you expecting to do a summit try. I advise you to wait until november or december.
Actually i don't think the ranger will allow you to climb it at that time a year, but give it try, if you're willing to take the risk.

I'm going there november this year, and i have my doubts about my summit succes.

Good luck.
