Hi! Me and a mate will be in India for 3 months from 1st December onwards. Hoping to make it to Goa for 22nd Dec for christmas and New Years. Can anyone recommend cheap/good places to stay?

You could try the Mandrem Beach resort. Go to to read about the place. It's clean, reasonably inexpensive and right on the beach. However, do note that hotel/food/travel prices in Goa inflate by a huge bit between the the 15th of December and the 7th of January, given the absolutely MASSIVE number of Indian and foreign tourists who come to Goa for New Year's eve celebrations....

Hi Terry
Great to hear that you are planning to come to Goa during Xmas but do let me remind you that the rates of rooms in Goa usually doubles and triples during this week apart from very slim chance of you getting a room unless you book in advance of 2-3 months. The same room which you can get at other time of the year at say Rs 2000-Rs 3000 per night during the last week of December you will get the rooms for say 6000-12000. There are a lot of good hotels which are cheap and good also. Check out the site for Goa hotels which are categorised according to the star facilities and prices.
Site is
Also if you meed any more info mail me.
Hope it helps

Yeah, Goa is really expensive around that time. I was staying in Palolem for alot of December at a hut that was 250 rupees a night. By the time Dec 15 or so rolled around the owners told us our rent would go up to about 600 for the hut. So be prepared to fork out alot of money for a decent place. You will find the rest of India whole lot cheaper, and if you return to Goa at the end of your trip, I'm sure it will be just as cheap.
As for our hut, it was Island View Huts. It was one of the many that all look identical along the beach. But I do recomend that you head to Palolem for sure. It's a great beach.
