Hey guys, so I guess nobody's heard of Ramblas Rooms in Barcelona, but I'm still interested in checking it out so I dont wanna book something in advance and find out I missed a great hostel. So what i'm curious is, how important is it to book hostels in advance in high season? I will be in Barcelona, Venice and Amsterdam in June, which I imagine is high season in all of those places (well, as we know its ALWAYS high season in Amsterdam! lol.

Also, I want to stay in the flying pig in amsterdam cause it seemed good for backpackers... I stayed at bobs last time and enjoyed it even though its a bit lacking in... je ne sais quois, lol. So does the Flying Pig fill up fast? or is it pretty likely that I can just go there and book a room that night?

And for sure I will let you guys know if that hostel Ramblas Rooms in Barcelona is the real deal! sounds too good to be true cuz cheap hostels in Barcelona just don't exist!

Tanks many dudes and dudettes!

I think it can be indeed smart to book in advance for venice and amsterdam, amsterdam doesn't really have a lot of hostels as far as i know, because if that is full, you need to pay so much more for a hotel.

about barcelona I have no idea, altough I think there are some more hostels..
i know for the uk and ireland it's very smart to book in advance because that is what everyone does

yeah basically if u go to any of the above mentioned cities you must book ahead. The Flyin Pig Especially! altho they have another hostel in Volderpark which is very nice too.

Weekends could be startin to fill up soon for those cities already for May/June - watch for festivals - June Barcelona has a few big ones and Amsterdam is a popular destination for backpackers and weekend getaways since all the Budget airlines offer great deals there.

ya very true... you guys seem to make a lot of sense :-)
I will definately start booking now.

btw do you know specifically of any festivals in Barcelona between june 1-10? i'm sure once i'm there i won't miss it if I keep my eyes open but I've been browsing around and not quite sure how to get info on fesitvals. Venice as well, I wasn't able to find much in the way of an event calendar for Venice. Cheers again for the help

about the ramblas rooms:

hey, just came across your thread now!

i stayed at the ramblas rooms in barcelona. its a cool place. have you seen that movie l'alberge espanyol, about erasmus students in barcelona? well, its a bit like that kind of buzz. its a laid back place, a big old apartment with private rooms instead of dorms. their motto is: why sleep in a dorm with 20 snoring strangers if you can have a private ramblasroom for the same price...?
anyway, the place is clean, its got a kitchen so its great if youre on a budget as i was, and the atmosphere is nice - lots of travellers, couples and small groups. it doesnt have the feel of a youth hostel which is what i liked about it, its like for a few days you are living with these other travellers, sharing an apartment with them, its nice.
theres no curfew so you come and go as you wish.

anyway, i would recommend it to you Tal. as for whats on in june - the first week has a great music festival - primavera sound - lots of cool groups, definitely worth checking out if youre in town. bcn will be packed!!
