I know of a series of "easy languages learning" books with tapes or CD's that's called "Assimil". They're not very recent, but among the better ones on the market in my own opinion. They teach all kind of languages : English, French, Italian, Spanish, ... See http://www.assimil.com/.
You might find them in your local public library or bookstore.

PS : I'm not connected in any way to these books and their editors and I'm not saying they're perfect, but they do allow you to learn the basics of a language.

This is a good website I used when I was studying Spanish at university to add to your vocabulary. It also does French and German, no Italian though. I found that using the site to learn a load of words I didn't already know and then reading some spanish literature really helped me to get a grasp of it. It's perhaps a rather obscure way to learn a language but it worked for me.

Hello Hannah

There's also the "learning french" BBC website.

i am using the all-audio series from Living Language to learn Italian, http://www.randomhouse.com/livinglanguage/. It's all converation based. I like it because the conversations are easy to follow, and the speed of conversation is slower than most language learning CD's available in the market. Good for beginners.

I also used Rosseta Stone (http://www2.rosettastone.com/en/?a=b) to learn French. Recommended by my ex-bf who's a French.

Both Italian and French learning materials can be found in these two websites.
