i'm an asian female who's going to stay in a mixed dorm for 8 in london alone (picadily backpackers hostel). As it's my first time staying in a dorm, i'm pretty apprehenseive about the safety of it. Any advice on precautions i should take considering i'm alone and female?

Also, any convenient, safe and cheap dorms to recommend in london and paris? My budget is about 10-14 pounds for london and about 20 euros for paris.

Thank you!

sleep with something on.. (if possible more than just a string)

and say hi to the people above or below or next to you.. (so you know a bit who you have around you)

last year, it was my first time to go on holiday on my own, and I stayed in hostels, and of course I was also afraid to get raped or so, but i never felt unsafe.

it almost seems like there is no sexual atmosphere at all in dorms, at least, not if you don't want to.

don't be afraid, because i think, if something happens, there will always be someone who comes to rescue you.. at least that was what I kept in mind all the time... perhaps that idea will help you as well?

If anything, I've found a lot of blokes you meet in those situations are very nice and protective of you when they know you're alone, and make you feel safer. Its best to try and get to know people.

I found in hostels in Aus and NZ, that if you are alone, the staff usually try to make sure you are not the only girl in a dorm. If you ask to be with other girls you might feel better.

And its unlikely but if you do feel someone is too creepy or something, don't be afraid to talk to the management or maybe move rooms.
