What's the easiest and cheapest way to travel around Europe?

Hi, I'm very very very happy that I am flying to Europe. I'll stop in Germany and I want to travel all around. I'll be flying again to Paris, then I am on my own.

I would like to head south through France into Italy, then Spain and perhaps Scotland and England, then back to Germany to fly out.

This will be during the months of November to February.

Is it best to buy a Eurail pass?

Thanks for your time,

It all depends upon what you want. If you want to travel around a country extensively, ie see a lot of places, eurail is the way to go. Eurail also has the advantage that you can be very flexible in your travel dates and plans. But if all you want to do is to see a few cities like Paris or or Berlin, flying is a better option.

You can even mix this - eurail for one country, two cheap flights for the other, whatever works out best time and moneywise.

Take a good look at to figure out all your options in terms of the rail pass(es).

BTW, November to February is probably the worst possible time to travel in Europe. If you are going to make it all the way down to Spain, consider hitting Morocco on your way. There are some very cheap flights available in winter from Agadir to London or Germany for an easy return. The weather will definitely be better in Morocco, and life there is cheaper too!

You should also consider going through Switzerland by rail - the route from Germany via Basel to Milano in Italy is legendary for its beauty.

Fantastic advice. Thanks for your time.

I am only able to fly during these months
1. because I am yet to finish uni
2. My family are in Sardegna (Italy) and we will be going there for Christmas

So hopefully Nov-Feb turns out beautiful rather than the worst time to travel!

I did look at Eurail, the deterring thing is that it's so darn expensive, even for a youth pass (I think).

Thankyou again.

The Eurail France 'n Italy Pass Youth starts at 205 EUR. Thats a steal if you take trains all the way from Sicily to Paris.

Yes I see, but for where I am wanting to go, and if I were to go Eurail, it would cost me AU 1,100

Easyjet and ryanair are very cheap (and good) - if you wanted to go from spain to england you can get a really cheap flight from Madrid or Barcelona. Also there is a website for the train all the way from Morroco to London:

You can also take flights between cities in the UK for quite cheap in England - sometimes trains are cheaper. If you wer to buy train tickets seperately in the UK you may find it quite expensive - the trian from London to Edinburgh can cost about £150-200 if bought on the day. However, if you plan well and buy tickets in advance it can be cheap.

Try looking on for prices of tickets to give you an idea of cost - a pass may be well worth it but i don't know much about the Eurail pass.

In the UK visit London - go to a show and an art gallery, walk along the river thames and see the houses of parliament and buckingham palace etc and shop on Oxford street.

Manchester is also a great place to visit - for its shopping, famous curry mile, music and museums.

Edinburgh - for its castle and historical stuff.

Cheap flights between those cities are usually possible - book early!

Hope you have a great trip - anymore questions about the uK and I'd be happy to help. :)

You've inspired me even more to visit London! What a beautiful place it sounds like. I look forward to seeing those things.

I'll be sure to have a look at the trains and flights, and will keep in touch!

Thankyou again
