who should we book flights through and is sooner better then waiting?

what will we apprix. spend if we are backpacking and doing it cheap?

This probably isn't the answer you want to hear, but with 6 weeks, I wouldn't recomend attempting to see half of that stuff. If you do include Japan and India in there, you are leaving yourself with about 5 days in each place. All you will get to see is the city you land in. Honestly, if you have less than 3 weeks, don't even bother with India. If limited money is a problem, then doing all those stops will require a rather expensive ticket. I think you would be much better off on a 6 week trip just picking a place for stop over and sticking to it for a nice vacation. Singapore would work well. If you fly Singapore Airlines from London to Sydney, you probably be able to stop in Singapore for free. You could spend a nice 6 weeks travelling up through Malaysia and Thailand. It's also a very cheap place to travel, and you can keep your budget to well until $15-20 a day if you want.

But if you do want to see all that stuff in your 6 weeks, be prepared for a (comparatively) expensive trip. You will need visas for India and I'm assuming Egypt. You will also have to get some pretty expensive shots if you don't have any already. You will also spend alot of time travelling to and from airports which often ends up being one of the biggest expenses in many cities. And for the amount you'll see, I'm wondering if it's worth it. I would say it would be better to ditch the RTW ticket idea until you have enough time to see the places you go to.

Thanks for the advice, we decided not to do india or japan, however we have decided on our route. it's going to be fly out of london ( no real visit, we've both been) madrid, athens, cairo, singapore, then landing in sydney...moving there. so in six weeks 4 destinations and we might elimiate 1. thinking we are just going to stick to the cities we land in, maybe venture out little...but keep it relaxing with no plans on what to do.
