Hi there

Im stopping over in Hong Kong for 4 days in October on the way back from Australia.

I'd appreciate any hotel recommendations and what area is best to stay in - we would like to stay in a decent hotel, i cant afford top whack (unfortuntely!) but would look at mid range, maybe even 4*** if its worth it! A pool would be nice too if we just want to chill!

Many thanks for any advice!

Define what you mean by afford. I stayed at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel but you'll probably pay around $350 a night. Very centrally located and a good pool (according to their website, the largest outdoor heated pool). Very easy to get to from the metro.

been to these Stanford Hotel (http://www.stanfordhongkong.com/en/) in Mong Kok, very convenient... around the corner is the MTR & the ladies market.

Hi,

The hotels I stayed at during my visits to Hong Kong included:

1. The Charterhouse
209-219 Wanchai Road
Hong Kong
Tel: (852) 2833 5566
Fax: (852) 2833 5888
Website: http://www.charterhouse.com/

This hotel is at a convenient location in the city on the Hong Kong island side. It's close to all - restaurants, convenient stores, shops, etc. It's also within 10 minutes walking distance to the MTR and Time Square, a large mall. There are no pools though. Average price range I paid was around $950HKD.

2. Bishop Lei International House
4 Robinson Road
Mid-Levels, Hong Kong
http://www.bishopleihtl.com.hk/

This hotel is away from the hustle and bustle of the city in a middle- to upper-class residential area. They have shuttles to the city in the Central district. It's a 5 - 10 minute ride. You can also walk down the Mid-level escalator. It's a very scenic route to catch the various antique and unique shops. I love this hotel because it's away from the pollution of the city. They also have a small pool here also. It's reasonably priced at about $750HKD for a single room with double beds, depending on the season.

3. Nikko Hong Kong, Hotel
72 Mody Road
Tsim Sha Tsui (E), Kowloon, Hong Kong
Tel : +852-2739 1111
http://www.hotelnikko.com.hk/Nikko/home/en-us/home_index.aspx

This hotel is at a great location in Kowloon. It's a block away from the esplanade that provides a great cityscape and nightline of Hong Kong island. The room is also much larger than the ones at the Charterhouse and Bishop Lei. I don't remember if there's a pool. The average cost I paid last year was around $1250HKD (during March). It was well worth it for the room and the opportunity to walk along the esplanade that leads to the Walk of Fame (?) where the stars or hand prints of movie stars and artists are displayed on the ground. The hotel is also conveniently located near alot of restaurants and shops.

4. Novotel Century Hong Kong
tel :(+852)25988888
238 Jaffe Road
WANCHAI
Hong Kong
Website: http://www.novotel.com/novotel/fichehotel/gb/nov/3562/fiche_hotel.shtml

I've booked rooms at this hotel for my upcoming trip to HK. Based on my research, this seems like a nice hotel although I'm not expecting the rooms to have as much space as the ones at the Nikko Hotel. There's a pool here that seems pretty nice. The hotel's also conveniently located in the Wanchai district on the Hong Kong side and should be within walking distance to the Convention Centre. I'm looking forward to staying there. I was able to get a decent price of around $970HKD per night.

Hope this info helps. Good luck!

Google up the PANDA Hotel, this hotel is not in the Kowloon area but there is a subway connection not far from the hotel. Since it is not so close to the more popular places to stay the prices will probably be a little lower.

I had a big discount on my rooms (Mon - Thur are usually cheaper,) I had purchased a plane ticket and the 3 nights when I was in Bangkok.

It depends where you want to do and where you want to be. I find that the Kowloon Hotel, behind the Peninsula is quite affordable with an excellent location. Right next to the TST station MTR, and a five minute walk from the ferry to cross to Hong Kong Island. The rooms are a bit small but it's still a very good hotel. If you want to stay in Hong Kong Island you can try the Cosmopolitan hotel in Causeway bay. I haven't been there in a while but it was nice and maybe around $150 US. It has a free shuttle to Times Square Shopping Center as well as Central.
Hope this helps!

Hi there,

You might want to try this site: http://www.asiatravel.com/hongkong.html

It has a lot of discounts there. You might want to look for a hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok, Causeway Bay, Central or Wan Chai. There are more things happening at night in those areas. It depends on what you want to do or see but those are the prime locations in HK.
