My partner and I are travelling to Madrid in September. We aren't at all interested in nightlife but instead, we would like some suggestions on cultural must-sees! Aside from the Prado (one of the main reasons we're going) we don't know what else should be on our itinerary. We love beautiful buildings, scenery, vantagepoints, cafes, etc.

We are also interested in taking a trip or two into the countryside and would love suggestions on day trips. Would you recommend us renting a car?

Just starting the research now... thanks for your help in advance!

In the winter I went to madrid and from there I went to toledo and segiova, both very beautifull cities, with for me more beautiful buildings

I went there by bus, the bus service is very good, for some places you have every hour a bus and for some you have every 3 or 4 hours a bus, and the busstations were located in the centre of the cities.

Hi there,

I lived in Madrid for 1,5 years, so maybe I can help out.
In the surroundings of Madrid you will find El Escorial (an old monastery) which is very beautiful. In Madrid itself, I would recommend you visiting the Temple of Debod, it's an original temple from Egypt that was given to Spain as a present for help during floods in the Niger-delta.
If you want to see more art the Thyssen Bornemiza museum (classic art) and Reina Sofia museum (Modern Art) are very beautiful as well. If you want to go hiking, you probably will need a car, else you won't get there. The Sierra de Madrid is very beautiful.

That all for now, If you want to know more, just contact me.

Kind regards,
Loes
