I plan to go to Bahrain for a vacation. I have a few questions:
- What it the country like?
- When is the best time to go (preferebly off-peak season and not in summer).
- Is it safe for a solo woman traveler?
- What are the must-visit places?
People are very nice and hospitable and often very educated.
The cheap hotels and restaurants are run by Indians. The places for the locals are expencive.
There is nothing to see and nothing to do there. Not even snorkelling.
Bahrain is a tiny Island with a causeway to take you to Saudi Arabia (as a woman you will not be allowed to drive all the way over).
There are few if any public beaches, and I would strongly suggest styaing in a hotel with a pool, or with a beach club.
If you are staying with friends or relatives then it's much easier as they will know where to take you.
Avoid the summer - way too hot, avoid Ramadan (Mid Sept till Mid Oct) and also avoid the Eid breaks as there is a very bad religious festoival which includes hitting yourself with chains etc.
The souks are safe, the museum is great but really once these two are done, there is little else to do. You could always go to the Tree of Life - but that's just a tree in the desert! If you are stopping over enroute to somewhere else, then by all means, you'l have a decent few days, but iof you plan on going just to go - i would re-think!
