My name is Nadia and next year I'll be 18 years old and I have been seriously thinking about moving to London England at the end of next year. I was just wondering if you guys have any suggestions aboiut where exactly to move, how the life is out there, how do you get a job out there when you are an american citizen and all that stuff.

Depends on what your tastes are, London is a big place. Let us know what you are going to be looking for in terms of interests, music, employment, atmosphere, etc. It will be easier for us to help you.

I'm pretty sure it's not that difficult if you're from the US and A to get a job/visa/work permit here.

Hi Nadia,
yes it is actually very hard if ur an Americano....i myself - from the USA as well - spent years tryin to make it over. One way is to apply for a BUNAC permit if ur a student. I applied for Graduate University here in the UK and have since got a job and settled finally!

Depends on what u wanna do for work..bar tend and u can stay for alteast 90 days - otherwise u may have to find a company to sponsor you. Altho - since alot of Americans want to leave the USA - there has been ALOT of posts throught the archives concerning this topic. Try doin a search and youll find other Americans who have posted the same question.

goodluck!

Hey Nadine, saw your photo, when you turn 18 you can work at my friends Restaurant in the Broadway-Fulham area and use a spare tiny flat we have there. -snip Zoom

[ Edit: please keep the personal and inflammatory remarks to a minimum thanks. ]

There are lots of nice places to live in and around London. I personally like Clapham, Richmond and Kentish Town. However, Nadia, London is horrendously expensive so it would be quite wise to try and get a job (even if only temporary) organised before you turn up.
Not sure how it all works with visa's etc either unfortunately.

Windmill, I thought we were buds (mates) now. Need for what? Unless, I'm wrong (and correct me if I am-seriously) She has got some kind of piercings going on on here bottom lip. She's a very attractive girl, why would she mess up her looks by putting all that stuff down there (I KNOW it's the fashion - does she want fashion or work?). My friend that owns a restaurant in the Broadway - Fulham area said no way until the metal's gone (I sent him an E-mail , he saw the shots) People don't want to look at that when eating - it disturbs some people. My friend doesn't have time to negotiate, he's got a business to run. It's up to her. He has more then enough people coming in looking for jobs - I think half his employees are from Poland (he loves Poles - they're great workers, only sometimes the English is a bit weak)....people come in ALL the time looking for work - you know how London is with that Windmill, it's always packed with job seekers....Zoom PS. tallbird, the way it works with visa's is you work "under the table" in American slang. You don't go through the reg. channels cause it takes YEARS. She hasn't even come back on here, she's not serious, OBVIOUSLY.........

Zoom,

I take great offence to your original assertion about the 'crap' in her mouth, and also the way you are assuming she wants to live in your friends flat and work in his restaurant. You've just gone way too far. It's offensive to diss the way someone chooses to dress, and in such a public way too. And perhaps she has come back to this forum, but if it was me, I wouldn't be posting again having got that sort of reaction to my appearance.

It's not as if her only choice if she's coming to London is to work in a restaurant, there are plenty of jobs she can do, and many that would not stifle her individuality by asking her to take her piercings out.

Stop trying to act like everyone's dad and either give well-founded advice or none at all.
