Ah, thank you Vlakvark!! .....Are you putting money on that though??
Off course I am! First game is a couple of hours before my mate's wedding in Oz, which poses a bit of a problem - how much can I drink before being too pissed to attend the wedding?
Don't get too pissed Lord Vlakvark
I'm with swedreamer that i'd love to see a Swedish victory (to be fair, i'd settle for a large victory of England), although i don't think it will happen.
I haven't decided who i'm going to back yet, as i'm waiting for injuries and final squads. The Brazilians look the best, but not as good as in previous years (they have some problems), whilst lots of other teams look very close and there is no one outstanding challenging candidate. Several could win it, and it will come mostly down to a bit of luck.
Can see a new side winning though, and perhaps somebody not really expected to.
As an England fan I would hope that we at least get through to the semi's. I know we will definitely not win the World Cup
However I have a 'feeling' that either Holland or Argentina will be the winners. Don't know why, but I think it may be their year! I got the same feeling when Everton last won the FA Cup those many years ago, so it just may happen!
wayne rooney!!!! come on england!
i think we have a chance... if we don't win it then the brazilians will!
I'd be happy to see it go more or less to form, but i'd be utterly, utterly amazed if that happens. The odds on it are minute. I'm not sure there has ever been a world cup or Euro's that has had the 8 favourites (give or take the Dutch or Czech's) reach the last 8. There is always 1 or 2 bug teams that fall early, and one or two randoms that surprise. Possibly only the last 4 in 1990 (give or take Brazil) has come close to being predictable at the start, although both Brazil and the Dutch fell early. Looking back at the 3rd place play off games tells a story of it's own.
(to be fair, i'd settle for a large victory of England)
Oh, and that should read (to be fair, i'd settle for a large victory over England)
Well, with Rooney's foot injury this weekend I'm guessing the odds on England winning at the bookmakers have taken a bit of a dive?? That really blows. I remember the Dutch having the same issue with van Nistelrooy a few years back before the European cup.
I'll be cheering on the Dutch as always and they've been looking pretty strong in the qualifiers. Their only problem is they will have to come out strong immediately as they have the toughest qualifying group (all four teams there are going to find it tough to get through!). Then again, it's in Germany and they have pretty good memories there (finals in 74 and winners in 88)!
I doubt that quarter finals line up is going to happen reece. Spain has a history for being terrible at tournaments and I just don't see France, Germany or Portugal getting there. Sweden is strong and they play well as a team which is always important.
It's going to be good fun, whatever the case!!!

Bad news for England - good news for the rest of us But yeah, sad stuff...
And yeah, that quarter finals lineup is just too unlikely - it doesn't even have Australia in it
