The fact that everyone in Ireland lives in homes with no electric, we wash our clothes in a brook - like at the turn of the century!! Poor hard done by Irish - the Americans (no offence intend) lapped it all up!!

I had a bunch convinced that everytime the sun came out, I had to hurry and start rebuilding my melting igloo before dark, or else I had no where to sleep ;)

Rough life here in Southern Ontario!!

I was in St. Louis during the NCAA March Madness Basketball tourney back when they hosted first round games in 2002. My roommate worked at the time at a Canadian sports network, and have given me some free shirts. So one night at a bar I was wearing a shirt that said "Sportsnet," and was telling people that I was a segment producer for a Canadian sports network, and was in St. Louis to cover the basketball. Got a few people very interested in my story.

This is sick, but more than a few times I have lied about having a girlfriend back home to a woman I was trying to pick. The sick thing is, I was actually lying and saying I had one when I didn't have one. And you know what, I get WAY more attention as a traveller with a girlfriend than one without. Never underestimate the power of the competitive spirit in women.

The best lie story I have, though, isn't a lie I told but rather one that was told to me. I was in San Antonio, Texas. I met a guy named Ted in a bar, who claimed to have won an Olympic Gold Medal in Hockey playing for the U.S. Olympic Hockey Team. One of many fun adventures in San Antonio that I wrote about in my blog entry on38 year old stripper grandmothers and the first American born NHLer.

Quoting Brendan

I told everyone that in Canada we all live in igloo's and ride dog-sleds to work.

I know this is not true because I have a refrigerator magnet from Montreal that says so! It says, "Things I didn't see in Canada", then has pictures of an Eskimo on a dogsled, an igloo and a moose. My refrigerator magnet does not lie - I did not see those things.

Maybe we need to pass along one of those magnets to the team from Alabama who arrived last August to the annual Rotary "Rib Fest", fully geared up with their ski equipment !!!

Our Uni was in Bathurst - a very small town near the Blue Muontains in Oz where the social highlight of the week was doing the weekly shop at Woolies. When I met my dormies for the first time, they asked if we had such things as newspapers back home, or whether we had a McDonalds. I told them that we lived on trees and hunted our food They nodded, and then told me how amazed they were at the level of English we spoke *Chris rolls on the floor in fits of mad laughter* I loved my dormies - they were the coolest bunch of people ever!

Umm...a little bird told me once...if you claim to have diabetes when you check into a hotel, you get a fridge for free ;) Which is really great on those extended stays :)
