I want to go travelling but just so scared of doing it alone! For the past year all I've been thinking about is travelling to the Far East, Oz& New Zealand.
I'm turning 25, single and just need to get away from UK. Where do I start with tickets, hostels etc and am I the only person who hasn't booked a ticket yet?!

Any advice appreciated!

hey im like you im really bricking it as i am going rtw alone and my first flight is in 2 weeks - this time in 2 weeks i will be in yosemite national park in cali! honestly darlin go for it i have loads of questions and doubts but u just gotto go for it - ive been working in this ded end job for like 6months mate and im going insane im supposed to be having a gap year so now i can properly live up to it - basically the best place to go is STA travel - cheap flight routes and they sort you out if you give them ure basic idea of a great time - u just goto think you wont be alone and travelling alone is easier to meet new people - ive got tours sorted out for each country so go down to sta travel and start packing!

You sound like me 2 years ago....!

I agree with TJ. If you just pop into STA, say what your interested in, don't feel pressurised to buy anything there and then...you'll come away hopefully with a rough itinery, a few prices, a clearer head, and a bag of confidence.

Hang around here on Travellers Point for a while and you'll feel loads better about the whole thing!

I'd also recommend getting hold of some of guide books for where you want to go...even if you just borrow them from the library for now...It makes it all seem a bit more real when you see maps and so on.

Congratulations on finally getting the guts together! And welcome to the club!

Thanks for the advice and support TJ and Clarabell! I must admit hanging around on travellerspoint is making me feel less nervous! I think I'm going to go to STA this weekend and see whats on offer :)

I think it's that thought of going to your first stop and not having a clue where the hostel and things are but reading everyones else notes I guess everyone in the same boat if travelling alone!

I can't believe I'm doing this! I'm nervous even writing this! I could be travelling rtw this year.Fingerscrossed!

Trace, I'm in the exact same boat......I've decided I'm deffo going in Oct/Nov this year. Its daunting to think of quitting work but from hearing the experiences of others it will be worth it!

This topic was a big source of encouragment to me:

The biggest problem I'm having now is trying to find the time to plan my trip! Post back with how you get on with your plans, good luck!
