Two of my friends and I are going to Japan during the first week of May.
If anyone living there wants to meet up and maybe show us around a bit, we can buy you dinner or something in exchange for your time. We are 25 year old males from the USA.
If not ..
we'd really appreciate some information.
we're looking for some "must see" "must do" "don't miss" things in tokyo, osaka, kyoto.
And also, some night life information, maybe a couple of hotel/ryokan recommendations, and especially an Onsen resort to stay at.
So to summarize, basically any useful information you can give us would be great.
Thanks in advance!
Im currently living in the south of Japan, and just wanted to give you a word of warning. April 30-May 5th is golden week here, so therefore many national holidays. The majoirty of Japan heads out of the cities to nicer places!! You will need to make sure that you book places in advance, as many of the major tourist destinations will have had accommodation booked up for a while now. Also the trains are likely to be very busy.
Kyoto as a whole is a must see. You could spend your whole week here! Dont really know much about Osaka, and Tokyo, well tokyo is something of a metropolis which has everything you could ever want and more.
Make sure to bring plenty of cash with you, as credit cards are not widely used here and the atm machines to be found in post offices, are only open when the post office itself is...so there is no quick dash to the cash machine at 3am!
The nightlife in Japan on the whole is fantastic. It is so much more laid back than what im used to - im from the UK, so may be slightly different in the US - bars stay open as long as they have customers and the owners of the bars will often come and drink with you. (again this may well be different in tokyo)
Altogether is a really cool place to come visit, though it can be a tad confusing. I hope u have a good guide book and a handy phrase book.
Im sure you will have a great time here in Japan.
i am thinking of travel to japan in this summer (in june)
do you have any idea for me ?
how can i come to there from here (Turkey)
which airlines i have to fly?
how can i come to there??
where should i stay in japan? etc.
Yep, i'll second that... Golden Week over here is nasty... everything triples in price and there are people everywhere. Aside from Summer, Golden Week is one of the worst times to come to Japan.
And nightlife is a little different in Tokyo, depending on where you go. Don't do the tourist thing and go to Roppongi... it's dirty and sleazy and there are better clubs in Shibuya, and bars all over the place. And who really comes here to see other foreigners anyway, right?
But since it's not a long stay i'd recommend only 1 or 2 stops... you'll want to spend more time in the one place, not moving around. So i'd recommend Tokyo and Kyoto.
When I lived in Chiba (near tokyo) I always liked Golden Week the best exactly for the reasons previously stated. Everyone goes somewhere else, so Tokyo is great. Lots to see and do if you like the city and a few million less people. It may not be local but it definitely is Japan at its best and worst. And the Tokyo nightlife goes on and on so yea give Roppongi a miss and crawl around the arty alleys of Shimokitazawa or for some interesting sightseeing(but strictly no foreign access) hit the red light Kabukicho. There are also great clubs around Tokyo- PM me if thats your scene.
If you master the transit system then all doors will open....
