Hello to All
I am nearly 42 in the fortunate position of not having to work to pay the bills and have a reasonable amount of cash on reserve, I retired from the Army last year! I want to go travelling for a year and I know I should just go and do it before its too late!! I had it all planned for last September but put it off due to various reasons ..... new girl, leaving family and my cat!!
I seriously have the bug again and no I always will do if I don't do it, so please everyone how do you finally decide and do it?!?!
Help would be appreciated from all and especially those of the same age group who have similar pangs!
I should just think of the famous quote and do it I suppose:
“I would rather regret the things that I have done than the things that I have not”
Regards and good luck to all.
42 is getting up there, soon you won't be able to walk without crutches , will have to be spoon fed, need help with bathing, and be confined in a old folks home. Think about all the stories you could tell your fellow nursing home residents.
Leave the girl, the family, and kill the cat. Travel is more important.
Hi! I'm in the army too, well I'm at west point and will graduate next year. I have the same wanderlust that you're describing and I was going to wait to travel but I couldn't do it any longer. I have some time off before I go to an MP unit in Korea in July so I finally just stopped talking myself out of it and BOUGHT THE TICKET. I bought my first big roundtrip ticket to London so there was really no going back on it. I'm backpacking Scotland for 3 weeks then heading to Germany and Austria to backpack there. Once I bought the ticket, my anxiety and questions didn't melt away but I don't regret it and I know it's going to be an awesome experience that I may never get to have again. NOW IS THE TIME...I'm a traveller and free spirit and getting away from all the discipline and itineraries of army life is exactly what I need...it sounds like you need some PURE, UNTAINTED FREEDOM as well. Good luck!
you should definitely start planning your trip. i am a young chap just 24 from india. i have travelled 6 countries till now apart from india all alone in the past 2 years.
If you feel you are happy at your own place just stay there and enjoy but the life becomes routine and you may not be able to visit any new place in future as you are getting old.
First fix your budjet amount and time as of how much you can spare for your entire trip and then start planning different places according to that.
I am so jealous of you. I think you should just sit down and start planning your trip right now! The only way to start is to start. You seem a little apprehensive for some reason, just try to let that go and start planning your trip. As soon as you start looking into different places you won't be able to stop. You could even start by exploring the US...good luck.
I am going to do it at last , I'm about the same age as you
I have work all my life thought this year would never come.
Bought a motorhome
just one thing left to do, sell the house then i'm off
go for it
you only have one life
