I was on the road for a month last summer to several photo-rich destinations (DC - UK - Russia) and didn't use a computer the whole time. I had to start choosing shots to delete at the end. I would have brought two 1gb cards instead of one if I had known/anticipated how many shots I would take. Save yourself the pain of choosing which child to feed and which child to let starve...bring ample memory for your pictures.

1gb * 1 month = not enough for me

Andy, NO NO NO ... Why risk it? Even if you aren't a photographic nut, like some of us, a small investment now will liberate you for your whole trip.

For a two weeks trip, I took three 1G cards completely filling two of them. I was too fearful of loosing photos so I didn't try to dump at all. Better to take too many photos than not enough. This way you don't even have to think about it, just shoot til your hearts content. No regrets, right?

USE THE HIGHEST RESOLUTION. Don't try to squeeze more photos onto your card by getting a lower quality photograph. These could be the photos of your life. Wouldn't it be sad if they are not as beautiful as they can be? Again, if you take lots of card space you won't have to scrimp!

Where are you going for two months??? I hope you share some of your photos with us and ... Have a fantastic time.

Andy,
you're kidding right? :)
A month on a 512mb card? it depends on camera and what you want to shoot, and how much...
Personally, I don't leave home without my 8Gigs of CF cards (5 cards). This allows me to shoot 600 images in Raw mode. That's for just a days shooting trip. If I'm going for more than one day then I take my 20G iPod and a Belkin card reader. Slooooow but effective as needed. If more than a couple of days of shooting, then I take my Powerbook with 80G HD to upload in my hotel room at the end of the day.

I just ordered a "shell" for digital storage from USBGEEKS.com. For 42.00 US$ (including S&H) I got a Digimate. I have my own 20G HD from a laptop I scavenged. I'll put that 20G in the enclosure and I'll have another storage device that will allow me to upload right from my CF cards..

C'mon guys, taking photo's is a HOBBY, not a necessity to survive... 600 pics a day? Jmoro, that's just sick... come from behind that glass eye and enjoy the beauty of the world around you with your own!

Is this a thread to help, or to boast about how many pictures we take and how big they are!!??

I have a 5Mp camera, and I take three 512 Mb SD cards with me (don't want to use 1Gb cards: if you lose one, you lose too much precious picture material)

But to come back to the original question: even I don't think one 512 card will be enough for two months, not even for the most modest photographer. Extra cards are not that expensive, and it saves you a lot of grinding choises of pictures you have to delete. Although the cheapest option will be: keep your one card, and when it's close to full go to an internet café or photoshop to burn the pics on CD... it's up to you.

I went to a fotoshop at Misiones/Iguazu to let them make a CD,the had a technical problem, all my fotos where lost, got a empty Card back.
I was really pi...,all my fotos from the North of Argentina gone.

Now I take 3 x1 GB cards and the smaller ones with me,and my normal camera for back up.

Ouch, It's always good to have a few extra cards with you, but in your case the blank card you got handed back could have been recovered.
Generally the recovery of data from flash-media cards is quite simple, it might cost a bit more but depending on whats on there, you might just want to splash out on it.
Just something to keep in mind for the future

Hii...

If I was you I would go for 2x512mb insted of 1x1GB...

Its better when you download it to the pc, it may take a bit of
time to download a 1GB (my own exp) if you take pic in JPG.
There its gonna be a lots of pics if you use normal-fine qualit
on the pics...

And if someone steals your cam then your still gonna have a card left in the bag... or use 1x512Mb and 2x256Mb...
They are realy sheeeep... better to have an extra...
I use 2x1Gb + 2X512mb + 2x256mb and the give away card 32Mb,,,hehe

Its better to by an extra card before you go, then you don`t have to spend your money on the card when your i Europe.
