Hi
I am travelling to OZ in November and hope to work for a few months while im there. I was thinking about doing a TEFL course before i leave so that i could teach english as a foreign language while there. Has anyone done this?? is it easy to get a job as i did some investigating and from what i could see they want you to have quiet an expensive cert/ diploma (costs about a £1000 plus)

just wondering if this is infact the case or whether the TEFL dourse is enough.. theres no point in me doing it if it's useless!

thanks....
;)

Check out www.tefl.co.uk they do intensive training weekends for about £250.00 that qualify you in 20 hours practical. They then have an option to complete an home-training pack which gives you extra hours teaching, methods, ideas, etc. They usually travel around various cities in England. Worth a look.
I don't think Australia has as high a requirement for TEFL teachers, as much as non-english speaking countries, but the above website, once you pass have job offers for you.
hope this helps

thanks for that. I think i might just wait until i get to Oz to see if it's something i can get a job doing rather than doing the course now and not getting any use from it. :)

HI there,

I did a TEFL course here (in Oz) a few years back with Teach International, it cost me 1500 AUD. (prob gone up since then) There is about 5 days face to face and an online course to complete. It wasn't bad for a working person, as 3 of the 5 days are after hours, with a complete weekend as well.

I'd suggest trying to link a course with the country of choice, I know there are a lot of these types in Spain and Poland, where you train for 4 weeks, then they place you in a job..
