Looking at going to Norway in late may/early june.
What is the cheapest way to get upto Tromso from Bergen preferably going via Oslo and Trondheim to spend 2 or 3 days in them citys on the way up, given flying is impossible for me due to medical reasons beyond my control.
At the moment my route looks like, Bergen-Oslo-Trondheim-Bodo on trains (overnight to save on accomodation) and then the coastal ferry from Bodo to Tromso, and for coming back Tromso to Bergen direct on the coastal ferry taking 4 days. this way i see quite a lot of norway.
Im not too bothered about Bodo its just there as the ferry connection to tromso at the moment, if anything cheaper is avaliable from Trondheim to Tromso it would be easier as Bodo doesnt interest me.
Also is there any cheap hotels/Guesthouses in the towns/citys mentioned that could be recommened to stay in.
Thanks for any replys in advance
i would recommend staying in the youth hostel in oslo. Its about 10-15 mins north of the city centre on the trams. Its called Haraldsheim Youth Hostel, really good, clean and cheap as well.
thanks, i shall take a look and see what i can find about it.
Consider the hurtigrute (coastal ferry) pretty cheap and they used to do a sort of travellers ticket where you could get on and off where you wanted at the various towns it stops at (this was 10 years ago mind you). Far prettier way to see the country from the fjords. Make sure you dont miss out on Aalesund on your way up (North of Bergen)is a beautiful gothic city rebuilt by Kaiser Bill after it burned down as was his fav holiday resort.!
Aalesund I've got brochures on, not sure if its a city i wanna see too much of, like with nearby Molde. but they are possibiltys for maybe on the way back from Tromso as stop off points on the hurtigruten ferry.
