Hey there,

if you wanna stop by the islands on the way, (e.g. krabi, phi phi etc etc ) the way to get to them is from hatyai in southern thailand, so you can take a bus from bangkok to hatyai (about five hours i THINK), its dirt cheap and flexible. After you're done with the islands, you can also take a bus from hatyai to singapore (11 hours), the coaches are really good and comfy (if you get the right one), and its cheap so its not as painful as you think. It costs about 20 plus singapore dollars the last time i took it (i think) so its really cheap plus you get to see the wonderful er, highways of malaysia.

yes the islands are wonderful, don't miss them. Skip phi phi cos its overrated unless you're into watersports and wanna hang out with thousands of tourists all trying to do the same thing all at once (ie get some sun). Krabi is perfect and the crowd is friendly, mostly rock climbers and hippies. (ha!)

Check out the 'simple life' if you stay on Koh tao it's a wicked chill out place with THE BEST pad thai in Thailand!!! (also if you miss sandwiches the best ever Tuna sandwiches), Pool competitions, bar on the beach! it's quality.
The islands really are tourist outposts Koh panang literally has no thai residents other than those working for the tourist scene! but it's worth a visit.
The full moon party is once a month and a must do for real ravers, theres also the Venus party in the mountains of Koh Tao less frequent less reknowned but supposed to be just as good if not better!

When your passing through Malaysia if you have time check out the Perintian islands (North east coast) they are totally idyllic and I would recommend them far more highly than any of the Thai islands!! great for diving.

Have a good trip and take a couple of days in Singapore to go to Raffles and have an original Singapore Sling
