I am looking to rent a car when in New Zealand during June.
Which company do you suggest I contact? I am not going to be in the country long enough to consider buying and then selling the car when leaving.
It also seems to be a bad idea to rent a camper van during this period because of the weather conditions.
If you want a good car go with budget, avis etc.(expect to pay $40++)
If you arent bothered go with: http://www.discount-car-rental.co.nz
cars are old but OK (from A-B) problay cost you $19nz per day.
There are heaps of cheap cars in NZ (check out www.trademe.co.nz) you sould spend at least $800+ on old car.
Cars are hard to sell as there are so many of them ,unless you are perpared sell for $1 reserve auction (again on www.trademe.co.nz)
If you are only coming for a month then go with rental, also remember if rental breaks down they fix, if your $800 car breaks down (likley) then you pay!!
If you are staying longer then two months then mabey look at buyin car.
We hired cars in South Island in January (peak season) with Omega Car Rentals - for NZ$39 per day - coming from the UK this was dirt cheap!
Cars were automatic - not tiny Nissan Bluebird - not brand new either but it did the trick!
You will be able to rent cheaper car in Auckland,A bit more competetion, $39 may seem cheap.... but 15-19 is more like it for older car..
Would recommend EzyRental. It's reliable.
