just wondering if anyone knows of any decent transport (cheap) throughout germany while the world cup is on! The trains look pretty pricey although i'm having trouble finding a site that will let me look at single journey routes!!

if anyone knows more than me let me know

Thanks Emma x

although i'm having trouble finding a site that will let me look at single journey routes!!

www.bahn.de (English version available) has routes and prices.

For tickets if you do use the train, look at possibly getting a rail pass - If your only doing a few long journeys, a 3 or 5 day German Eurodomino will probably save money. Google Eurodomino for details.

There is also an official ride share scheme in Germany (essentially taking the fun out of hitchhiking), although it's likely to be hugely oversubscribed during the WC. As will virtually everything else - trains, planes and buses the lot (baring private car).

I'm going to the world cup with 3 of my friends.

We will start the trip in KOLN, stay there 3 days, (England is playing against Sweden) we will sleep at a new friend of mine I just met on www.couchsurfing.com

After KOLN, we are going to Dortmund where I will sleep to an other friend of couchsurfing. (brasil plays against Poland.. ouch)

After, we are going to the www.worldcupcamping.com, and we are gonna stay there, relax, meet new people and enjoy to be with so many nationalities.

Planning to go to Hanover maybe Breme before, Hannover, we are gonna sleep to a www.host-a-fan.de where it`s free and near downtown.

Our trip finish at the begining of July in hambourg where my uncle lives. We might go to the loveparade after that which is on the 15 of July.

after it`s prague, budapest, Italy etc...

  1. ######### Finally my questions what would be the best deal, or the best way to travel between all those cities. EUrolines? Eurail? The plane? With the worldcup camping, it includes a return trip for around 30$ euros... What are your sugestions? m########

@ hyypiaem

No, 3 days within a month, not 3 consecutive days.

3 consecutive days is yet another pass, please don't ask me which one.

@ toransurf

Eurail

RESERVE A SEAT WAY AHEAD THROUGH WWW.BAHN.DE!

Sadly (unless they have changed it in the last few months) you can't book a seat online if you already have a ticket. You can book the ticket/seat, but not just the reservation for a pass online. Allegedly it will happen soon, but whether soon enough...

There is a DB office in the UK which can be phones up (from memory, they are in Surbiton) who will probably be able to do resvs for you, as will RailEurope (DON'T EVER USE THEM IF POSSIBLE - they are utterly incompetent and charge an extorsionate fee), plus people like Ffestiniog Travel ((very, very good)), a company in Cambs who's name i forget, and one or two others who you can phone up and deal with.

thanks gelli you still off then? x

Of course. Just have to work out how to get there from Hua Hin, first. But i'll be there...

Everybody seem very pro-DB, but when I verified the prices, It appeared to me that the prices were very expensive. Like 90$ euros for a frankfurt, Hamburg ticket. Quite expensive...
