Folks,

I know from the news that old Turkish Lira will completely stop circulating at the end of 2005. However, does the implementation is on-schedule? What about prices, does it significantly increasing? Any travel tips to distinguish between old and new Lira?

Thank you.

Hmmm, the end of 2005 was 4 months ago. Do you mean the end of 2006?

old lira has way to many zeros on it. So if a banknote says 250 000, it is old lira, because that was the smallest common denomination before the change.

I was there in Dec 2004 right before the change, so I don't know anything about a phase-out. But they changed it on the first of January 2005 and since that date banks were only supposed to issue new lira.

It is the end of 2005, as Maia also inform that the new Lira circulation started in January 2005. I don't think that only within 1 year will sufficient to pull out all the old money ....
