I wondered if anydody could help me? I am desperate to get out of Sydney this weekend for a break. I have already been to the Blue Mountains, and so I was wondering if anybody had any ideas of where else I could go? I am looking to go somewhere to stay overnight and meet other travellers.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated :D
Hey, i'm kind of in the same position.
I know a few people that have beenn to Canberra, but they say dont stay there longer than 2 days-i was told that it is boring and weird there but its one of those thiongs that you have to go and see for yourself, I'm going to go there during my trip. They made it sound funny, so i have to go and experience it for myself!!
Why not go to melbourne for the weekend.
Go up the coast to The Central Coast or Port Stephens. Central coast is just over 1 hour North of Sydney and Port Stephens is just another hour north from there.
Terrigal has a nice cozy YHA on the Central Coast and a nice beach or if you go up to Port Stephens (just North of Newcastle) you can go on a Dolphin cruise and get lowered into a net which wll allow you to get close to the dolphins.
I reckon Canberra's got heaps to see and do and is well worth a visit (Portrait Gallery, War Museum, National Museum, Questacon, old and new Government Houses, some nice bike rides around the lake, an ale on the lawn at the Yarralumla sailing club),
... but if you want somewhere a bit more "seaside", you could jump on a train and head South to Kiama. There's a backpackers there and a few things to see in and around the town (Blowhole and coast walks, fish and chips and feed the pelicans and massive stingrays at the harbour, Old Fire Station Art & Craft Centre, Minnamurra Rainforest & Waterfall, Coach House Art Gallery, Saddleback Mountain Lookout, Spring Creek Bird Hide).
where to start, you can go to the hunter valley, two hours north and great wine, newcastle asnd port stephens about three hours north, canberra about three hours south, thredbo mountains, the list goes on,,,,,enjoy
