Hi guys, i am planning a trip to Canada with my girlfriend in August. i was convicted in February 2016 for ABH and given 60hours community service which has been completed. My conviction becomes 'spent' in Feb 2017. i'm from the UK but have a Zimbabwean passport and thus have to apply for a visa. what should i do when filling out the Visa application. should i declare or not? or should i cancel plans and go elsewhere?

Cheers,
Tendayi

Terry I appreciate there is an abundance of posts however can't see anything that exactly matches my query.

To clarify I have one common assault from 2001 and a gbh (without intent section 20) from 2004 however have since found that my record listed doesn't actually call out s20 or without intent as listed on my record which naturally causes worry if it were assessed by US however I hope that the norm with a gbh with intent does state the intent so it can be understood mine was not any evil intent.

Both were from when I was under 18. In process of preparation I have authorised acro to divulge my info to embassy if asked but they can only say yes or no to what I have told the embassy. I'm now thinking that not best idea if I don't attend an interview for visa. Maybe I've opened a door that should have remained closed???!

I'm thinking I could legitimately take the esta route based on the two convictions being under 18 and without intent and naturally don't want to flag myself up for life!!!

Sorry to regular posters like yourself terry but I have spent time browsing numerous pages but can't see a scenario identical to mine with same convictions etc.

As with many I have certainly moved on with life from these and was young and foolish. Just feel like it's hanging over and now will do for the rest of my life despite big changes to improve life and turn it all around.

Need to sure of this before applying for a Schengen and US visa.

I'm from ivory coast. I was an asylum seeker in UK but withdrew my asylum a day after. I was convicted in the UK for 12 months for deception but i used fake name and date of birth but they took my fingerprints. Now am in another eu country legally with my real name and date of birth. I wish to obtain Schengen visa and US visa but am scare the embassies may see my offence with different names? I know i can't go to UK, but can i still travel to US or Schengen country for holiday?

It occurs to me that there seems to be a heck of a lot of people with a criminal record who want to travel to the USA. Maybe Homeland Security's seeming paranoia is not paranoia at all but a justifiable concern.

I urge you all to ignore the troll above.

Unless you have a serious conviction don't bother applying for a visa it's a money racket, just get your esta you will be fine. The border and customs at J.F.K are rude and arrogant .Their just so dopey, but they just really don't give a shit.
