I have had 2 incidents with the police:
1. Reprimand, possession of class B (cannabis), 2002 (17 years old)
2. Fixed penalty notice, non-conviction, "use disorderly behaviour or threatening/abusive/insulting words likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress", 2005 (20 years old, arrested for swearing in public!)
Both of these show up in full on recent ACPO Subject Access Request.
I would like to go to USA in next few years. Have nothing booked yet. My problem is that I would like to keep the possibility of working/living in the US in the future open. If I lie on Visa Waiver now then that isn't going to happen. I was wondering if anybody could offer advice on the likelihood of me being granted a VISA? And any advice on increasing the likelihood of being granted one? My arrests are petty and a while ago, but the possession of Class B doesn't look good. Any feedback appreciated. Cheers!
I would just like to say i think you are doing wonders on this forum. You have put my mind at ease. I shall be rolling the dice in December myself for a family holiday. I so hope we will get in as i have spent thousands.
I would like to hear from all the other people travelling before december, how they got on at customs.
Mine was a recent conviction for drink driving, resulting in a driving ban. I am British.
I was even considering going back to my birth name on my passport due to never having committed an offense in that name. But i do not know what info passport holds. i.e will it hold info of my name now if i changed it back.
PS: Where should i apply for the visa waiver program. which is the cheapest?
I thought id share my experience seen as I came on here for advice.
After a long 18 month of indecision I finally decided to take the risk and venture to Florida without a visa
I have a reprimand for shoplifting as a minor
Got to customs after a long flight n started getting sweaty palmed. After a hour n half I finally got to c the customs officer.
Are u carrying food? Answer only sweets
Carrying over 10k? No I wish lol
Did finger prints and retina scan
Little chat about are plans but that was information I gave him without him asking.
Have a lovely time in America ma'am!!!
That easy this time.
Still wont atop me worrying next but will put me more at ease. They're not monsters and it was straight forward but obviously the decision and risk is still urs
"... They're not monsters..."
Actually Joanne, they're pretty close. ;-) The US CBP + Homeland Security + the myriad of other security agencies = a huge, ugly pile of rotting bureaucracy. Getting red-flagged is not pretty, especially when it's for something that happened decades ago.
That said, your particular situation was (as stated here many times) a complete non-issue right from the beginning.
Glad you had fun.
PS Thanks for the kind words, disneyprincess. Tranquilo and have a gas.
I was wondering if someone would be able to give me a bit of advice.
I have been on this website for sometime now reading all the posts however im still unsure on my own situation.
Myself and partner are looking to book a holiday for this March to New York, however he has a criminal convection for cocaine intent to supply this was charged nearly four years ago but didn't get convicted untill 2 years ago. He did not get a prison sentance but was ordered do to 300 hours community service.
I seen that Terrys previous posts state if it was a minor offense that did not occur in a prison sentence to forget it happened, but I was wondering if that would be classed as a minor or a major offensive.
Thanks in advance

Hi, looking for some advice and 1st time on a forum. My husband and I went to Florida 1998 and on the plane he filled out a form and said he had no record. He recently was crb checked for my sons scout group which has come back with a theft conviction when he was 17 which he had never told me about (this was 32 years ago) he was give community hours for this. We have been saving the last few years to go to Florida next year and I now don't know what to do. It obviously never showed up when we went before as we were never asked any questions over it and don't remember being fingerprinted then. I am worrying as this was before 9/11 and obviously security is very different now. Can anyone help please. Many thanks.
