Gelli is correct about the lake. While there are many cheap places to stay, the location isn't that great. If you can find a place closer to the riverfront, try for that. You can walk to a lot of sites such as the Palace, museum, etc. without having to hire a motorbike.
The river in PP is a beautiful spot to stay! We stayed at a hotel called the paragon down sisowath quay, it was US$15 a night for a double room. There were loads of nice bars & restaurants around that area.
hi laura_b, can't find anything on paragon down. Do you have a website/email/no?
Ok, thanks for the suggestions. i'll look for something along sisowath quay then. It seems like a nicer place to stay anywhere, although slightly more ex than boengkak lake.
any other suggestions for guesthouses around there?
one more thing....are there powerpoints in the room? Would need to charge my mobile!
Many thanks to all who've replied. I'm leaving in 3 days and i'm starting to get nervous!!!
I just asked a moto driver to take me straight to the hotel, didn't book anything. I met some people in Saigon who recommended it to me.
I've just looked on the web & did find this, which gives you some details:
We had a basic room at US$15, but this had a power point, which I used to charge my camera up. Try not to get a room that's too high up though, there are no lifts!
If you need any info on Phnom Penh & Siem Reap, I will be more then willing to help!
Have fun, I loved Cambodia.
