"..I've only met one online person, and she hardly spoke english...."

No need for small talk then

D'ya know what we did? I'd flown from the UK to Hong Kong, threw my rucksack in the hotel and had to rush out and meet her. It then took me 2 hours to find her downtown and she took me to an....ITALIAN restaraunt.........ITALIAN??!! All that way....for italian??!!
We didn't say loads, cos i was cream crackered and she couldn't understand anything i said anyway.
It was fun tho, she took me to Times Square and i got the coolest belt in the world. We just walked and occasionaly looked at each other and cutely looked away quickly.

I agree with you there Matt. Sometimes in company at home i get a little conscious that people think i am 'showing off' whenever the subject of travel comes up. On this forum the people have either been to more places than me, or are on the way to catching me up and have a lot of interesting things to say!!!!!!!!!!!!! Either way i hope they are interested in some of my comments, and occasionally will find them useful.

Totally agree with MattXII and Daveh.

I came back from a few years overseas and found very quickly that people either weren't overly interested in what you'd been up to, or were only interested in the negative things of other countries so as to justify their own miserable existence.

This was not everyone of course, but a surprising amount of people.

People get all insecure when they are confronted with someone who has done something that they don't have the guts to do or whatever.

Its true, they just reckon your showing off.
We ain't! We've done something amazing and that needs to be shared.
Although my housemate has travelled more than me, and he says that when your travel you take the experience, it changes you and that's all, there's no need to talk about it.

Hi guys. I was thinking about online identites and how they are obtained over the internet... I'd really LOVE to hear your veiws on this!

Some people like to fantasize and write stories, especailly romantic ones. Then in later life, start living them out through their online identities

Ew... are you serious? That's a bit weird and sounds too hard for me. Is that what you're doing Wocca? Are you not really who you say you are? That's creepy!!!

I've always used the nic soapsuds. There'a story behind it but not related to anything you might think.

I've been getting mysterious emails lately. I fell for the first one, and replied. The person claimed that I taught her a couple of years ago. Once I chatted online with her, she was very convincing however a week or so later ... I found out that she was somebody else. Because I don't reply to her emails any more, she's been posting comments on another site that I contribute to. Fortunately, those site administrators are sympathetic and have threatened to block her if she continues.

It's not so unusual soapsuds, for this type of thing to happen. Some people are just so introverted, they only know how to express themselves online. I know of other people this has also happened to me. Let's just call it a sign of the times.
