Hi, my friend and I are flying into Thessaloniki this June and from there we are planning on going to Italy. What would be the cheapest way to do this? And also, is Thessaloniki worth staying in or should we move more south?
Thanks a bunch!

Aegean Air has some really great deals right now (they fly from Thessaloniki to Rome) starting at 49 euros one-way and the deal is not hard to find and there are very few restrictions as far as I've seen so far - they're only 19 euros for flights between cities in Greece!

Other options include the traditional ferry crossings between Piraeus-Athens and Italy (Brindisi is one of the many ports along the Italian coast with ferries from Greece). I know that there is also a ferry from Corfu if you're interested.

Hope this helps, I'll be in Greece this fall and hope to be island hopping with a good mix of Aegean's 19 euro flights and equally cheap ferry crossings.

Thessaloniki is not worth staying there according to me.It is a very crowdy city with not much to see,and terribly hot of course.
So yes, move to the south, well, the center actually, where you have all these beautiful things to see, like the meteors close to Kalambaka city(just amazing),and Delph on the Korinthos gulf.
I would definitely advise the ferry to join italy, but if you really want to save money, you should take your ferry from Igoumenitsa port, that is on the west cost of greece, and only a few hours from Brindisi....In there you have a hostel that can pick you up from the port directly ...well,that's not what you asked..
I hope this helped,enjoy!!

Without flying there is also the ferrie wich is a great experience. Super Fast Ferries has several great deals between Patras (GR) and Bari or Ancona (IT). A night on the Mediterain Sea is really nice.

thanks alot for all the advice... i'll definatly be taking some of those 19 euro flights, thats awesome. Im also wondering about tattoos? Are they safe to get there? I have one of those international student cards and i get discounts at quite a few tattoo parlors. Just wondering if i should take advantage of that or not. ??
