Border-hopping to extend visa??

Travel Forums Africa and The Middle East Border-hopping to extend visa??

Demian has indicated that this thread is about South Africa

Sawubona! (Hi in Zulu)

I am staying for half a year in South Africa. I am working, but staying on a tourist entry permit (since it is very hard to get a work-permit for South Africa, hence the unemployment rates, wich hover around 26%!)
The temporary entry permit allows me to stay for 90 days, after that I have to extend it. I went through all the bureaucratic fuzz at the department of home affairs to apply for the extention, but I am far from confident it is going to work out well.

My question is: is anybody experienced in the phenomena 'borderhopping' (a.i. visiting a neighbouring country for a couple of days, coming back and hopefully receiving a new 90-day permit?).

Even if it is not in the specific region, any comment on the issue is very welcome!

Thanks!

Demian

Yebo a go go.
just got from S.A myself dude,no problem with extending your visa....just pull into Mozambique or Namibia for a few days. You might even get away with visiting Lesotho or Swaziland for a few days but aren't 100 on that.

Sadly, no. Your visa doesn't get extended by going into Swaziland or Lesotho. Been there, done that.
