What's the difference between clubs and pubs? pub = tavern, club = nightclub?
Is there really no way going into clubs before 18 yrs? What about pubs?
I'm going to GB next sunday...
That law that makes it possible to arrest two 12-year olds kissing in public cracked me up completely... Haven't seen many 12-year olds kissing in public but it's reasuring to know they can get arrested for it.
It's ludicrous in my opinion that it's ILLEGAL to have sex before 16.
Keep in mind that Britain and the U.S are countries with a very high percentage of teen age pregnancies compared with other countries, with a lower age.
Hm, what about introducing sex education in school?
It works in other countries!
Hey guys, heres the law of the great white north...
CURRENT LAW IN CANADA
The Criminal Code does not now criminalize consensual sexual activity with or between persons 14 or over, unless it takes place in a relationship of trust or dependency, in which case sexual activity with persons over 14 but under 18 can constitute an offence, notwithstanding their consent. Even consensual activity with those under 14 but over 12 may not be an offence if the accused is under 16 and less than two years older than the complainant. The exception, of course, is anal intercourse, to which unmarried persons under 18 cannot legally consent, although both the Ontario Court of Appeal(3) and the Quebec Court of Appeal(4) have struck down the relevant section of the Criminal Code.
personally i think its all sad
i dont no anyone who really abides 2 any of the laws coz evry1 does evryfink undereage so they shud jus b got rid of coz there ay no point in um
also i think they r 2 high anyway!
Well, I'm from Holland and the age of consent in Holland is actually 12. This will probably freak many of you out, as you already think that 16 is too young. Anyway, our belief in Holland is that the individual should not be controled by the State, but that each person should make their own decisions in life. I moved to England when I was 18 and was shocked by the amount of sex, drugs and alcohol that was going around there (and mainly under-age). Freedom creates a level of responsability. Something I have witnessed in Dutch teenagers, but not much in the UK kids. I wasn't like most Dutch kids and wanted to rebel, so I prefered to hang out with the out-of-control Brits at the time. I'm now older (and wiser?) and still belief that freedom of the individual is the most important thing.
I'm from England, where the legal age for sex is indeed 16 and in my oppinion is fine.. There is a Massive problem in Britain with under age sex and teen pregnancies anyway, so rising the legal age for sex isn't going to do anything about that.
I moved to Canada about 6 months ago, and the legal age here is 14, now that is unbelievable.. and extreamly wron. I wasn't suprised to learn it was 18 in America either, they're laws are pretty weird in that sense. Not being able to drink until you are 21 but you can drive a car at 15? I think they need to re-think some of those.
Okay, this is the first time I have had chance to look at this site for quite a few weeks, and even now I don't have too much time... Not enough time to read all of the posts or comments on this topic even... But I want to get in my 2 penneth worth...
There are too many posts to quote here so I will just rabbit on about my own thoughts and opinions, some of which may be fact based...
The main topic of discussion here, or at least what started this discussion, is the age to have sex here in the UK... Of course, as mentioned by a few, everyone enjoys sex (well, those of us who have tried it anyway, and by the age of 16 I'd say the majority of people have), but the laws are in place to protect minors... If there were no laws and no legal age to have sex, what's to stop a 30-, 40-, 50-, 60-year old man or woman from having sex with a child..? Of course, if a 16-year old boy was to have sex with his 15-year old girlfriend, or vice-versa and a 16-year old girl was to have sex with her 15-year old boyfriend, I dont think there is a court in the country that would sentence the offender... In fact, I'd be surprised if any charges were even pressed...
As for the alcohol consumption debate, here's something to ponder over... Here in the UK, the legal age to drink alcohol isn't 18, neither is it 21 nor 16, but it is actually FIVE. Yes! Here in the UK, at FIVE years of age, you can actually drink alcohol legally, and at 16 you can purchase alcohol, so long as it's to accompany a meal...
"At age 5 and over, children may be supplied with and consume alcohol in registered clubs, and consume but not buy alcohol in licensed premises provided the alcohol is ancillary to a meal and bought by an accompanying adult", (source, Institute of Alcohol Studies, http://www.ias.org.uk/factsheets/law.pdf, page 6).
Also, although things may have changed in recent years since I left the UK Armed Forces, but whilst I was serving although the age to actually join the Armed Forces is 16, you cannot enter armed combat (i.e. go to war) until aged 18. We weren't allowed to, although we trained under supervision, to carry live ammunition under 18, either.
That's it... And now I'm late... I may have even missed my train...
Apologies, but I have just quickly read a few of the latter posts on this discussion and may have been, with my last post, simply reiterating what has already been said... But when I posted my last post, I had only read the first two pages of posts....
Now I've definitely missed my train...
ages of consent is a tricky subject. after all the age of consent for sex is there to pretect children, but it is not always needed in some cases because people mature quicker than others. It does little good and more bad if you ask me. as the people it is trying to protect us from aren't afraid to break the law, where as the nice guys who i'd actually like to date don't want to get into trouble, or take advantage. also you get the teens who will dilibratly go out there way to break thelaw, just because they have been told they can't have sex.
i would increase the sex education system and i think that would help the problem a lot. the system now is a pile of crap, mind my language.
the legal age to drink is diffuclut to, i think that if the minor is going to be sensible and not have to much alchol and in a safe environment at an age which doesn't just take the 'biscuit'. then it is ok. where as a few of my mates have a lot more than they should, not that i can talk.
adults should stop being hippocrites too though, if your going to tell us not to binge drink then you dont either. ect.
soz about my dodgy spelling, i'm only 14 by the way.
thanx for reading.
