48hr stop in Tokyo - Capsule Hotels/Things to see?

Travel Forums Asia 48hr stop in Tokyo - Capsule Hotels/Things to see?

I have a 48 hour stopover in Tokyo before I go to Bangkok, Thailand and travel SE Asia for about 2 months..

I've never been to Tokyo but i've heard it's extremely expensive but definitely a cool place to visit. I'd love to see Toyko but i'll be honest, i'm on an extremely tight budget and i've heard budgets and Toyko don't mix.

I'm trying to find a cheap place where I can just crash/sleep for a night or two. What about a capsule hotel? Anyone know any good ones? That's really all I need, just some place to sleep.

What are some must do/must see things while i'm there for 2 days?

I'd like to spend one night out at club for nightlife which I know is probably expensive but i'm willing to spend some money and go drinking at least one night.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, i'm totally lost when it comes to Tokyo.

BTW, my dates are June 3-4 if that makes any difference.

Thanks,
-Mike

Mike,
I was in Tokyo about 10 years ago and stayed at a capsule hotel. It was cheap enough, about $20/nite. Rock bottom for Tokyo. I don't remember the name as a fellow American lead me to it. I did find a link that might help. Mike

Thanks for the link. Seems fine enough. I'm just basically looking for a place to crash at night while I wonder around aimlessly for 2 days.

Anything in particular I should go see in Tokyo or is it more of just go walk around and find something?

Shibuya and Shinjuku are cool areas to see. Roppongi is very popular for nightlife.

Capsule hotels are great if you're not claustrophobic. If so, love hotels in Shibuya are not so expensive for a night, but you'll have to deal with the seedy atmosphere. And while you're in Shibuya, the clubs are nicer there than roppongi. Expensive though.

2 days is short but you can pack some quality Tokyo time in if you plan ahead.

If you truly want to go budget, you can stay at an internet cafe or "manga kissa". They usually have nite pack for around 2000yen(25US$) or less. You can get a private cubicle, some times with massage or big easy chairs and all the free coffee, tea or pop you want. No shower facilites usually, but you can always find a local bathhouse and get naked with the locals and have a bath and sauna - a true Japanese experience, for less than 10 bucks.
Capsule hotels are good value as well and you get the bath as well as free personal products, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo so you can stash your luggage at Narita as getting to and around the city in backpacker mode is a major hassle.
Clubbing can be cheap depending on your scene. You can get all you can drink deals in Roppongi for 2-4000 yen with cover. If you are seriously into the scene, good clubs usually charge 4000 at the door for world class, local or domestic DJ`s and drink start at 500 yen and up from there. IF you have any q`s about the clubs or anything else specific PM me. I`d be glad to help, I live here.
