Hi all,

In the last few months I've had quite a lot of job interviews and my technique has greatly improved....Except for a few tricky questions they always ask.

I have 2 REALLY IMPORTANT interviews for University courses coming up (Midwifery). I know what topical issues to research, and all that. But what about the personal questions....

How do you answer: "What are your weaknesses?", without compromising stuff?

Has anyone got any tips? What do you usually say? Or any amusing interview anecdotes?!

Its that long ago since l had an interview but l always try to turn a negative into a positive! What are your weaknesses? - I usually say something like lm over punctual - which is good for deadlines etc and maybe to critical on myself meaning l like to ensure the work l produces is 100%! Hope this makes sense!

Good luck with the interviews, remember take a deep breath, dont babble and say the first thing that comes into your head, think about the question and give a consise answer - interviewers really notice waffle and dont mind if you take a minute to prepare to give a good answer and if you dont understand a question ask them to explain it (sometimes interviewers can word questions badly!)

Remember they are just people!

Give answers with personal experience where possible and dont lie be honest too it goes well! I have conducted a few interviews in my time and l know when lm scoring l know l always prefer candidates who are honest but keen and are willing to show it!

Hi Clara,

I am going through the same interview process myself. Usually the interview for an entry level position they ask you alot of scenario type questions because we lack experience. Thus when asked what are your weaknesses I like to say that my lack of experience is my weakness, otherwise I am perfect for this position and willing to learn... blah blah. Try to stay away from initial response answers like.. my weakness is that i am a perfectionsist, or I like to work too much... etc. I am sure they hear that alot.

Cheers~

good luck !!!

in my situation i normally say that my lack of qualifications (degrees etc) is my weakness but that this has driven me to be a hard worker as i'm always striving to prove myself, that i refer to my cv which shows continuous progression, i also say that as it is a weakness i am looking into correcting it and will turn to studying at night,

To crush your ennemies,
Se them driven before you,
And here the lamentation of their women!!!

In job interviews I have talked about how I can be shy but have learnt to overcome it, and despite it have managed to travel alone. They usually seem impressed! But isn't it the question you dread? Its the worst! If I was honest, it would be that I'm disorganised and messy I really don't want them to know that!

With it being for a University place, and I have already got a degree, I am quite happy in telling them that while I have good study skills, I struggle with exams, as I think everyone feels this.

The other question that makes me flounder is "Tell us about yourself..." always leaves me like a gibbering inarticulate mess!!!Where do you start!

Here you have to 'tune in' to the interviewer, and mirror them. To some extent of course, but not so much that you're obvious. If you say you're like them they'll think you're just the greatest.
Remember most people are idiots, and vain.

I once nearly got the giggles in an job interview because I was wondering what would happen if I suddenly belched really loud!?!!

Just reading the travel lies thread, has anyone here ever told any big lies in interviews?!!!
