I'm planning on visiting cousins in Australia within the next few years, and I was curious about what there is to do in or near Noosa.

Australia Zoo (of Steve Irwin fame) is a sort trip from Noosa and worth a visit. Other than that all I did in Noosa was spend time on the beach.

Hi Anna,

There's plenty to do around Noosa. A couple of hours north is Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world. You can see this island by four wheel drive and although I have never done it myself I have heard it's spectacular and very good fun if you do it in a group.

Up in the hinterland surrounding the Sunshine Coast are lovely mountain settlements like Montville and Maleny which are really worth a visit as their surroundings are so picturesque. On the drive up you can get some good views of the Glasshouse Mountains for which the area is famous (these are a series of volcanic plugs) and if you do a Google search you'll be able to see how unique they look.

Within a short drive there's also things like the ginger factory and the Big Pineapple (a working pineapple farm) which are quite interesting. Also Australia Zoo is good as already mentioned. It's well worth doing a trip down the coast visiting all the beaches because some are spectacular (some are Moololaba, Sunshine Beach, Coolum, Caloundra).

You're also not very far at all from the Gold Coast and Brisbane and there are plenty of things to do there aswell.

Hope this has helped and have a great time.

It depends what you'd like to see... If it's beaches, then noosa is great. There's some great beaches (a great nude beach too), and some classy resorts. If you want more beaches, head to Maroochydoor or Moloolabah, both have some pretty good beaches and some funky shopping (especially Mooloolabah). If you want country, then I'd head for the mountains. Montville is a massively popular tourist spot thanks to all the little cottage restaurants and shops, and Maleny is a nice place to visit to check out a quite little town. I lived in Maleny for 17 years, and i'd say it's a nice place to visit.

Wow, a ginger factory and a working pineapple farm. That should boost tourist numbers....

Noosa is great, but like a lot of places in Australia there's pretty much stuff all to do but go to the beach, which suits me perfectly.
