I'm off to Berlin in June only for a weekend unfortunately so I was after some help in choosing the best places to visit whilst there.
I am a History teacher so would love to see the Brandenburg GAte and the Reichstag but is there anything else worth seeing both from a historical perspective and generally?
Also, where is best to visit on an evening for food and drinking?
Did Berlin in one week end as well, it´s possible. I will advice the Berlin walking tour. Meet the guide wearing an Insider´s original Walk badge to purchase your ticket or buy it in advance inside the reisebank at Zoo Station.
9.45am & 2.15pm daily in front of the reisebank at zoo station .
The tour and a lot of attractions in Berlin are cheaper if you have the Welcome card. You can find it at the tourism office.
With this tour we saw everything and had time to go to postdam on our second day.
Enjoy your week end

I'd also suggest going to the Checkpoint Charlie Museum which I found extremely interesting when i was there last year. There is also a bit of the wall still standing close to the museum.
If you're wanting to go into the Reichstag, make sure you get there first thing in the morning because the queues to get in can get very very long!!
good advice here already
Checkpoint Charlie and the museum are a must!
Becareful tho - the Woldcup is in full swing in June - be sure u hav accom already.
For food and drink - try the Orienburger strasse sbahn stop - its a brill location with great bars, art galleries, and restaurants
I would suggest the Friedrich Wilhelm Memorial Church (I believe at the Zoological Garden metro/s-bahn stops), Charlottenburg Schloss (Palace), Berlin has fantastic museums (museum island is the place to go for the major ones), A good pizza place near museum island is called 12 Apostles (even frommers recommends), Berliner Dom, check out the Eastern side of Berlin, if you want to see major build up in the last decade go to the Sony Center area (amazing what they've done since reunification), check out the new Jewish Monument near brandenburg gate, you could spend an evening at the Berliner Philhermonik (amazing). I thought I would just give a good list of things I had done and loved about Berlin. Sadly you need more than a weekend but if you really want to get everything out of the weekend, buy a book on it which really helps.
Berliner Dom is a good idea, as is the museum island.

As a history teacher, you really shouldn't miss out the Ishtar Gate at the Vorderasiatisches Museum.
Btw, I did the Reichstag just a few days ago and the guides said that the best time to come is at 20:00. Last entry is 22:00, and if you come at eight, you are guaranteed to get in. There is a small exibition inside the dome in English and German, but you need a bit of background in German history to understand it all.
There is also a free walking tour offered by Sandeman's New Berlin tours. www.newberlintours.com The guides live on tips, so they really go out of their way to give you a great tour.
Their tour "Red Berlin" might be worth looking into, if you are interested in the history of the town.
I also enjoyed a boat cruise, there are several leaving near Museum Island. You want S-Bahn station Hackescher Markt for them and the island.
