Least expensive City

Travel Forums Europe Least expensive City

I am looking for a change and since I am young and have nothing holding me back here in the US, I would like to move to Europe. I really do have a particular city or country in mind. I was thinking about Manchester, however from the many posts I have read, the UK seems too expensive. I sure this topic has been brought up before, but I couldn't find much in the search. What cities in Europe are going to be the least expensive to live?

Thank you

eastern europe? at least not one of the 'famous' cities, like paris, london etc or the areas aroud it

and scandinavia is also quite expensive

The UK is great but for most people very, very expensive! You probably will not have as good standard of living as you would in the USA.

If for the British the UK is very expensive.

How about considering Spain or eastern Europe?

Forget UK if u want cheap.
I spent last summer in Budapest and found it amazing for cheap prices - our flat was huge and we paid maybe about 200USD a month, compared to triple that for my rent in Edinburgh now for the same size flat.

JeffG,

Besides Hungarian, do you have any idea what other languages are spoken in Hungary?

I realize the standard of living is different. I really just want to experience other cultures without paying too much. I should reword my main question as I am not looking for the cheapest place, but rather an interesting place where I can work and still have some extra cash left over to travel. I plan on coming with about $7,000 USD to start with.

You want super SUPER cheap? Try Belgrade in Serbia. Everyone speaks English and is full of great looking hot babes. 5 years from now this will be the up and coming hip place......Zoom

i was gunna say u should go to croatia, it is cheap the weather is nice (well for europe) coz 7000us wont go real far anywhere else. Are u sure u want to live in a city? i am living in switzerland at the moment and yes it is expensive but i live in a small village which makes it far cheaper then if i went and lived in zurich. What sort of work do you do? You may have troubles getting a visa to stay for a year, generally for americans the max is 3 months...... but good luck i think u will easily find somewhere in eastern europe that isn^t too expensive
