I invite you all to contribute interesting facts to this thread. Please back it up with some kind of source though!

I'll start with CFLs. Maybe nothing new, but it seems not enough people know it yet ;)

If every household in the U.S. replaced one light bulb with an ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL), it would prevent enough pollution to equal removing one million cars from the road.

from Energystar

The payback period for buying the CFL instead of the incandescent bulb is 500 hours, which is 100 days at 5 hours per evening.

from Wikipedia

Doesn't it make you wonder why incandescent bulbs still exist even?

Ok, someone give me an interesting fact

Phobatrivaphobia is fear of trivia about phobias.

An iceberg contains more heat than a lit match.

The average human body contains .1 mg of uranium, .2 mg of gold, and 7 mg of arsenic!

According to U.S. FDA standards, 1 cup of orange juice is allowed to contain 10 fruit fly eggs, but only 2 maggots.

This is too weird....from The News of the Weird.

Lee Raymond, who retired as CEO of ExxonMobil in December, had a retirement/compensation package worth the equivalent of being paid USD$144,000 every day for 13 years.....

And some people want to know where their slice of the American dream is.....

Cut down all their damn habitat, lest we get the bird flu.

I am a hell of an environmentalist, no?

At any given moment, there are 1,800 thunderstorms happening somewhere on Earth. This amounts to 16 million storms each year! We know the cloud conditions that produce lightning, but we cannot forecast the location or time of a lightning strike.
